Edward's obituary
Edward Joseph Benson, 72, passed away peacefully at 6:50pm on November 25, 2022, surrounded by loved ones. He was a loving, fun, & caring soul.
Edward was born on June 5th, 1950, to Joseph Cornelius Benson & Mary Ellen Wilkinson Benson in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from The American School in Chicago & was shortly drafted into the U.S Army. He served honorably as a combat infantryman in the Charlie Company 4th Battalion 1st Infantry in the 11th Brigade where he lost his leg as well as many friends on a patrol in the "Golden Triangle" of Vietnam. Among the medals, ribbons and awards he received he was presented the Purple Heart for his great sacrifice while in the line of duty. He managed to be philosophical about his experiences.
It was the 70s at this time and he went on to study architectural drafting at The Engineering Draft School of San Diego. After taking an aptitude test, he went back to school and completed his associates in computer science. This was a time before we used computers the way we do now. After he graduated, he worked as an IT computer specialist for the VA and the Department of Defense with Pratt & Whitney where he performed 25 years of service in the U.S government.
Eddie married once to Barbie Benson, though they parted ways they had a beautiful daughter named Jessica Marie Benson in 1989.
