Ande's obituary
On the afternoon of December 9, 2024, Edna (Ande) Hattie Herbert passed away peacefully in Forest Grove, Oregon, surrounded by family, including all five of her children. Ande was born to Stewart Mann Morris and Jacqueline Pearl Morris on March 15, 1949, in Fort Ord, California. Throughout her life, she exemplified determination, service, and compassion for all around her.
As a child, Ande grew up in a loving home with two brothers and two sisters, where she learned the value of family. In her early adulthood, Ande met Kenneth E. Herbert while performing in a folk singing group. They were married on May 6, 1967, and together they raised five children, with the music of their lives continuing. During their twenty-eight years of marriage, they traveled the world and lived in many places, including Germany; Anaheim, California; Henrietta, Oklahoma; Billings, Missouri; Meadville, Pennsylvania; Provo, Utah; and Fukui, Japan.
Ande was a devoted, fun, and creative mother. She filled the house with music of all kinds, often singing a song that matched the situation. She modeled confidence, problem-solving, and the value of cheerful service, teaching her children to look around and see what needed to be done. In honor of her deep love for God, she volunteered countless hours serving those in need. Over her life, she personally made and delivered thousands of home-cooked meals for the sick and grieving, uplifting those in need. As Alzheimer’s disease stripped away her skills, memories, and sense of self, her love for family and desire to serve only grew brighter.
As a young mother, she studied art and became an accomplished artist, first in charcoal, then watercolor and acrylics, eventually exhibiting her work in galleries in Green Valley, Arizona. While primarily a stay-at-home mom, in her forties, she and her family moved to Japan, where she began a new career in human resources, learning international workforce law. Later, she moved back to the United States as a single mother and served as a Vice President of Human Resources for both Intuit and Wells Fargo in Oregon and in Arizona.
Ande is survived by her former husband Ken; siblings Stewart, John, and Bettye; children Ken, Jen, and Katie of Oregon; Mariah of Utah; and Jon of Texas; along with fifteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Stewart; mother, Jacqueline; and sister, Jacqueline.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 11 at 10am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints chapel at 770 Elk Dr, Brookings Oregon 17415. The services will also be broadcast (contact a family member for details). All who knew her are invited to join in celebrating her life.
