Background
It was the disease of addiction that ultimately took Dustin's life. Although addiction did not define him, it was a horrible reality he struggled with for much of his adult life. Despite the darkness, he displayed strength, resilience, moments of hope and beautiful periods of sobriety.
I only share this deeply personal detail as a way to raise awareness about the harsh realities of addiction. It's a disease that doesn't discriminate, and is something that should be met with compassion and understanding. The Recovery Cafe does just that.
Recovery Café was founded on the knowledge that every human being is precious and beloved regardless of past trauma, mental and emotional anguish, addictive behaviors or mistakes made.
They provide a beautiful, safe, warm, drug and alcohol free space and loving community to anchor Members (their most closely-supported consumers) in the sustained recovery needed to gain and maintain access to housing, social and health services, healthy relationships, education and employment. The Members Recovery Café serves are in recovery from the traumas of homelessness, addiction, and other mental health challenges.
