Harry's obituary

Dr. Harry Michael Pylypiw, Jr. of Hamden, CT and Pensacola, FL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 28th, 2023 at Midstate Medical Center, in Meriden, CT. He was the beloved husband of the late Arlene (Chesh) Pylypiw. Harry was born in Camden, NJ on September 26, 1952 and was the son of the late Harry Pylypiw, Sr. and Mary (Marazzi) Pylypiw. An avid Boy Scout, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and always had a love and appreciation for the outdoors and nature. He graduated from Drexel University in 1977, receiving his Ph.D in Chemistry from Temple University in 1986. Harry had many unique jobs in his life including movie theatre projectionist, Campbell’s Soup chemist, and a line cook for Bachmann Pretzel. His career culminated with a full professorship in Chemistry at Quinnipiac University, from which he retired in 2017. During his time at QU, he was the author of numerous scientific studies focusing on contaminants in our environment and food. Through his mentorship and work with Sigma Xi, he impacted the lives of hundreds of students and colleagues. He enjoyed his many pet companions over the years, attending numerous Yankees games, lounging on the beach, pizza dinners, and his time with his sons. He was a wonderful and generous husband, father, father-in-law, colleague, and friend. He is survived by his sons, Nicholas J. (Joanna) Phillips and Justin (Christy) Pylypiw and was Grandpa to Astro, Sissy, Buddy, Sage, and Lola. He will be missed beyond measure.
