Don and my father Tony lived in the same community. Don and Tony became friends through, among other things, their common interest in flowers. As Tony aged, he was less able to get to the garden center and plant his beloved flowers. Don was above and beyond gracious in selecting, delivering, planting and caring for Tony’s flowers. This brought my dad hours of pleasure and pride as he watched those flowers grow! When my dad died, Don continued to care for the flowers until we sold the townhome. He was a remarkable friend to my dad and I always thank him as I plant my flowers in the same flower box each spring. What a wonderful soul!

We first met Don and Bev and their dog when my wife and I moved into the townhouse that shared a roof with their home. We were lucky to have such good neighbors. Don and I shared an interest in the environment, and he would explain his work to me. One day he brought me a whole armful of food he had helped develop, especially Kernza Wheat, which is still my favorite pancake mix. I didn't realize how influential he was. He was just an ordinary guy, very modest, and never presented himself as more important than anyone else.
I will continue to donate to his Scholarship Fund. He wanted to help people, and this is a good way to memorialize him and continue his efforts to help others.

I would not be working with pennycress had Don not got me involved. Still (like everyone who knew him), miss him terribly. My condolences to family, friends, and colleagues. May this fund help to continue his work.

I am sorry for the loss of Don. I learned much from him, first as a student in his weed science class 20 years ago, and then as a colleague in the department for 9 years. He was inspiring and asked the hard questions at the same time. One of my favorite memories of him is yelling down the hall "seminar, time for seminar" and banging on doors to get people to the APS seminar held every Monday at 3:30. He will be missed in the department for a long time.

Dear Bev, Dawn, Hayden, Lara, and Family,
My heart goes out to you. What a great loss. I will greatly miss conversations with Don about education that is transformative and prepares students to make a difference in the world. I will miss his humor and smart-ass comments and even well-intentioned verbal jabs. His work and his life will continue to inspire students to think big and dedicate themselves to realizing their dreams. I am grateful to have been able to spend time with him on this earth.
With heartfelt sympathy,
Mary Brakke

Don Wyse was an amazing character. I always enjoyed our visits. He taught me much about weed science and life. He had the best quotes and insights. I will miss him!

Along with many others, we'll miss knowing that you've left our earth. You served this world well. We had some good times as grad students together and I remember many funny stories. Bev, Dawn, Ryan and family are proud of you. But your antics, past presence and influence will keep memories going forever.
