It was 1985 or 86: one of the last LA Street Scenes. We were running wild in the streets (Running! Running!), as usual. I’m pretty sure we saw the Circle Jerks, because we always saw the Circle Jerks, but that might have been the year before. We were just kids and it is all a bit blurry… Anyway, there was supposed to be a surprise guest band to finish off the day and the rumor went around that it was the Ramones. We gathered in a big lot and waited. The Ramones didn’t show up, but LAPD did. Before we knew it they were coming towards us, some on horseback like the fucking cavalry. We could only run one way, away from the cops, but we were boxed in by a chain link fence. We found a gap that we could pull back and squeeze through. Doug went first, and then stayed at the fence, helping all of our friends and more than a few strangers get out safely. That was Doug: making sure we were okay, no matter how fucked up the situation.

Peace, peace! he is not dead, he doth not sleep--

He hath awakened from the dream of life--

'Tis we, who lost in stormy visions, keep

With phantoms an unprofitable strife,

And in mad trance, strike with our spirit's knife

Invulnerable nothings.--We decay

Like corpses in a charnel; fear and grief

Convulse us and consume us day by day,

And cold hopes swarm like worms within our living clay.

May you rest in peace 🕊️🎶 Doug. My prayers are with your family and friends 🙏🏼
