Deryle's obituary
Deryle Allen was born on July 15, 1961 in Washington, DC, to James and Hasteen Allen. He was the youngest of their 8 children. In his early years, Deryle attended DC Public schools, and after his family relocated to Maryland, he went on to graduate from Fairmont Heights High School in 1980.
After graduating, Deryle pursued his interest in studying electrical wiring. He took night classes at Crossland High School, and then enrolled in the Potomac Job Corps Center of Washington DC, completing the tract for electrical wiring in 1982. He received a certificate of completion for residential wiring from the National Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for the Electrical Industry.
While pursuing his electrical training, Deryle worked as a security officer with Abacus, Allied, Crab, and Master Services Security Companies. He was promoted as a sergeant officer.
In 1983 Deryle became a member of the Local 26 IBEW Union and worked in residential wiring. He later became a licensed Journeyman Electrician. He worked on various construction electrical projects and continued to pursue additional advanced electrical training.
Deryle loved to encourage and counsel men that were struggling to overcome addictions. He frequently spoke to the men at Salvation Army meetings and was also a well known speaker for meetings held at Alcoholics Anonymous.
In 2002 Deryle ran into his high school sweetheart, Cheryl (Ford), and the two of them became inseparable. They were married on September 4, 2004. They enjoyed being actively involved in their church, Evangel Assembly of God, and later became members of New Hope Church of God in Waldorf, MD.
Deryle loved encouraging his Pastor, Dr. Aaron Jones, while he preached. He was known for standing in front of the church praising and worshiping God. He enjoyed teaching Lay Leadership Development and participating with the Men of Hope men’s ministry. He loved to encourage others with the Word of God and was always ready to share the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ wherever he went.
Deryle was quick to speak to people and knew no strangers. He loved to make people laugh, and was also quick to protect the underdog. Most people referred to him as “keeping it real,” and loved to be around him. He had a special group of men that he loved to regularly mentor, encourage, and discuss the Word of God with. He affectionately called them his brothers and/or mentees. They are: Carlton Neale, Troy Wade, Stan Mosely, Darren Hall, Min. Rob Parks, Mike Bell, Thomas Ford III, and his best friend, Paul Senior, who he specifically called his “Buffalo Soldier.”
On August 9th, Deryle made his transition to the “Upper Room” as he so lovingly called it. Deryle was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dewaune (Cynthia) Allen. He leaves to mourn his wife, Cheryl Allen, children: Deryle Foxworth and Darah Allen, his bonus children: Cherice Willis, Walter (Leia) Cannaday, Jr., Christa, Chervonna, Charesa, Wryan, and Chabria Cannaday, and Khendrik and Khristian Ford, grandchildren: Markez Willis, Makayla, Christina, Alex, Amira, Mekhi, and Dom Cannaday, godson: Jeremiah Collins, sisters Geraldine Brown, Ann and Carolyn Allen, Tanya Sistrunk, and brothers, James (Jackie) Allen, Tyrone Allen, mother-in-law, Inez (Bobby) Ford, sister-in-law, Kecia (Leon) Cooper, brother-in-laws, John (Tiffany) and Michael Ford, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and many friends.
