Derek was my happy place when I lived in Idaho. Party at Derek’s! What a good heart. I will always remember him fondly, I will think of him when I see a beautiful canyon scene, and I will truly miss him.

I am truly so sorry to hear of Derek’s passing, as he was one of the rarest, most lovely people - even from such a young age g age. I count my blessings to have known him & spent time enjoying tubing, searching for crawfish at Glenmere, playing dodgeball, soccer, swimming,  and also doing not much at all. I have, and always will, carry his memory dearly in my heart.  - Staci Wilkes
I am so sorry to learn of Derek’s passing. He was a dear childhood friend of mine. So many memories of hours spent watching for birds, hunting for crawfish, fishing, hunting and shooting. Every boy’s childhood needs a friendship like Derek and I shared. My sympathies go out to his family and friends.
Derek was such a good and thoughtful friend all through our childhood together.  He will remain a part of many happy memories for me. My condolences go out to his friends and family.
Byron and I are so sorry for your loss. Derek was a wonderful neighbor and someone whose kindness and warmth were felt by everyone around him. We will always remember his humor and his friendly visits to our front porch.  Please know our thoughts and prayers are with all of Derek’s family and friends at this time.

My Sweet Derek,

You were born on your Grandfather Farr's 70th birthday.  The name Derek came from Derek Sanderson, a hockey player, your Dad loved hockey.  We gave you the middle name of James after James (Jim) Fyffe, who introduced me to your Dad.  I member the first time Jim saw you, you were about one month old, he was so proud and was beaming like a new dad himself.

You were a joy to be around when you were growing up, you had a wonderful smile and a great sense of humor.  I always would ask you and Ryan when you were leaving if you had your coats, after a while when I would ask, you both would say we love you too Mom.

I love you so much, not sure I will ever get over not seeing you and hearing your voice saying, Hi Ma.

Derek, the day before you died you penned a note to me that memorializes your complex character of empathy, curiosity and humor. I believe your sweet soul is free of distress, resting in peace among the caring souls of passed family and friends. Love, your Dad always.
