Dennis Leahy, 74, Rockford, passed away July 8, 2025, at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, Peoria, IL. Born November 9, 1950, Fort Bragg, NC, the son of Earl and Feryl Leahy, he earned his BS and MS from Northern Illinois University and JD from Ohio Northern University. Dennis had an entrepreneurial spirit. In 2007, he established Morning Star Village, a senior living community in Rockford providing comfortable living and quality care for many residents over the years.
Outside of work, Dennis read extensively, explored local natural areas, and journeyed to Northern Wisconsin and the United Kingdom. Unique family travel ranged widely from Beijing to Buenos Aires to Reykjavík. Other favorite travel destinations included Palm Springs, CA, and Boca Grande, FL, where he spent many Christmas holidays and spring breaks with his family.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 43 years, Susan Leahy, Rockford; daughter Regan Leahy (Fearghas MacGregor), London, UK; sister Jean Leahy, Psy.D., Chicago; and numerous cousins. Predeceased by parents and sister, Linda Leahy. He will be greatly missed.
