After my mother slipped away from us, Nanu was the mother I lost. All our memories are treasured in my heart, But her presence I miss the most. At the same time, I know she is resting with Angels, our mother and Pa.Pu.Tai. Her legacy lives on with the Apples of her eyes, Shyamal and Kuleen. LOVE you guys.

Most fun we had with Deepa bhabhi was on raksha bandhan day. She used to insist on having it their small house but big home! We could be 7 to 9 of us in the house where Smita, the sole sister tied rakhi on all brothers. Deepa bhabhi would treat us with her special sumptuous food and sweets, with a watchful eye on Hareshbhai !! ha ha !! Sweet memories that will never fade away.

Deepa was the matriarch, not only of Haresh's family but of all Mehta Parivar.

Though we reside in different continents, we communicated from time to time over Face Time

Why do I refer her as the matriarch? Each time we called, after a few minutes of conversation, Haresh would hand over the phone to Deepa! This is just one example. She went out of her way to ensure that anyone who visited with them were well looked after. Our Jiji and Papa, who stayed with them for longer periods, were full of praise about her, same with Yaju and Chaitu who also visited with them.

During our few visits with Deepa and Haresh, we always received a very warm and cordial welcome. During my last visit in 2015, I stayed with them for over a week. Many of you know that the Mehta clans love sweets. Haresh was restricted to have many sweet dishes, so he would tell Deepa " Pankaj would like to eat some "mitahi". (મીઠાઈ )" . With such a "sweet" excuse, Deepa would prepare a sweet dish everyday and Haresh would smile at me .Haresh, with such "sweet" memories, she lives eternally with all of us.

With fondest love to Shyamal and Kuleen and their families.

Jai Shree Krishna to all. With a much heavy heart,  I take this opportunity to say a few words for our loving sister Deepa on behalf of myself, my sisters Panna,Kapila, and  brother Deepak It's not easy to describe our relationship with each other, no doubt she was our sister but we were more like friends then anything else. We could share with her all  our thoughts and problems and she was there for us no matter what. A little bit of her will always leave within us She was the back bone of the family, family and others were her top priority.  The sacrifices that she has made are  not hidden from anyone. Not mentioning  the word sacrifice would be total injustice to her.she was so humble and down to earth about it that would not like to make fuss about it. Right now I can almost hear her say Pari shut up. Having said that I would like thank everyone on behalf of the family for being here to pay the homage she well deserves.Jai Shree Krishna.

I can't even imagine going to Mumbai & not seeing Nanu!! It just doesn't seem right. I share a very special bond with all my Masi's. They are all my friends more than my Masi. Nanu was a friend Philosopher & guide to me. I would call her from US & ask her recipes. She was such a great cook!!She was also so evolved spiritually. She would tell me that she doesn't get angry. She had so much control over her emotions. I am so lucky & grateful for her blessings in my & my kid's lives. Jai shri Krishna.

My favorite memories of Deepa kaki are from the 80's when I stayed at their old house for a week over summer. I was probably around 7 at that time.

We played the whole day - cricket, carrom, marbles and made a lot of noise. Everyone would join in for carrom after dinner - Haresh kaka, Deepa kaki, Rohit kaka etc. There were also quite a few visitors at that time who she hosted graciously and fed very tasty food. I believe she made separate food for me as I couldn't handle the spice level.

Those times must have been tough, having to do so much with so little (atleast compared to how comfortable life is now). Even at that young age I noticed Deepa kaki's grace, cheerfulness and sense of purpose. Something to emulate in our lives.

Whenever I close my eyes and think of Nanu I always get her smiling face in front of me… that’s how she was… always smiling… and she always told me… Gunj… you know ne… God is great, He will always do what’s best for us! That’s how I have learnt to have undying faith in God… She has been my teacher unknowingly in loving God and having undying faith in Him… She unknowingly has gifted me the best way to live by actually practising it! You may have left your body  but will always remain with us in spirit and I  will always treasure you in my heart as you always have been, Nanu… SMILING! Love you to eternity!💝😘

Although we met often, my fondest memories of her are of the lunches we had at Matunga for raksha Bandhan. Smita being the only sister around in Mumbai, she had the task of tying rakhis to us 5 brothers. Deepabhabhi would insist to have it at her Matunga home. Although it was a small house, it was a big home, enough to accommodate all of us. Besides being a good "surti" cook and a host, she was very well read and used to discuss good articles on the media or from books. A perfect match to our Hareshbhai and a perfect mother to two bright sons. She will live in our hearts forever as a pure, gentle, smiling, loving soul. Jai Shri Krishna

Sharmishtha and Rajagopal Tampi share our heartfelt condolences. May God Bless the departed Soul and give strength to the family members to bear the great loss.
Another remarkable quality of mummy -her immovable faith in Thakorji! Even after her cancer diagnosis she never ever said “why me” it was always Thakorji will take care of me. All through life whenever there were challenges, she diligently fought against them but in the end always had Thakorji as her guiding force! It was always “jevi Thakorji ni iccha” 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Will always remember Deepa Aunty as a very warm and loving person. Very gentle, compassionate and understanding. Yet very adventurous and zealous . When she came to the US, she was very eager to learn driving even while she was in her 70s… a true inspiration for us younger folks. Will cherish her forever ❤️
I don't know of a person kinder than Nanu. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't have been half as good in studies as I was. She has touched lives in more ways than she knew! Will miss her a lot!! May her soul rest in peace!
