Debbie's obituary
Debra Carroll passed away on July 24th, 2025 at Johns Hopkins Hospital after a complicated battle against Myelofibrosis, a cancer of the bone marrow. Debra, more commonly referred to as Debbie, was born in Worcester, Massachusetts to Elina “Mobilio” Palermo and Armando Joseph Palermo on July 19th, 1956. Debbie grew up in Worcester, Massachusetts. When she was 19 years old, she moved to Maryland, where she met her beloved husband, Dave. They married soon after in June of 1978 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Worcester, Massachusetts, the same church her parents had married in 30 years prior. Debbie worked at St. Paul Insurance company until the birth of her two children when chose to stay home and raise them through their early years. She finished her career working as an administrative assistant for Harford County Public Schools, where she adored working with the children, until she retired in 2016.
Debbie loved to travel, taking annual trips to Cape Cod, Massachusetts and frequent trips to their second home in Delaware. She was happy to go anywhere with a beach, and always got a great tan without much effort. She travelled as far as Buenos Aires, Argentina, to visit her dear cousin Pina and meet part of the family who had immigrated there from Italy. She enjoyed spending time with her four precious grandchildren, baking, puzzling, reading, shopping, sewing, and exercising. She led a busy, active life and always put others before herself, leaving a lasting impression on each person she came across.
She is survived by her husband: William David Carroll “Dave.” Their children: Dustin David Carroll, and his wife, Stephanie of Bel Air, Maryland; Dana Elizabeth Kelly, and her husband, Matt, also of Bel Air. Grandchildren: Jack and Jonah Carroll; Grace and Anna Kelly. Siblings: Robert Palermo and his wife, Barbara of Northboro, Massachusetts; Virginia Bahr and her husband, Henry of Bel Air, Maryland; Daniel Palermo and his wife, Mary of Hendersonville, Tennessee; Deanna Williams and her husband, Wendol of Madison, Connecticut.
