David's obituary

David Karl Wray, 68, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 16, 2023, in Peoria, Arizona. His passing concludes a painful journey with cancer which he fought fiercely against for almost three years. David was the devoted husband of Jessie Wray, proud father of Jessica Wray and Rachel Abel, younger brother to Ricky and Larry Wray, an avid adventurer, and a passionate follower of Christ.

Ambitious, kind, energetic, and hard-working, David grew up in Farmington, New Mexico, before graduating from New Mexico State University with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and Technology. From there, he began an impressive 36-year career with Hunt Building Corporation, where he rose to Executive Vice President while overseeing more than 10,000 housing units with a construction value of $2.6 billion. His career in military housing construction took Jessie, Jessica, and David across the U.S. (and to Cuba) before they settled in North County San Diego for many enjoyable years.

When David wasn't busy working hard to provide for his family, he loved embarking on varied adventures. He loved both fly fishing and deep sea fishing, but his true passion was for motorcycles. David derived so much joy from riding his Harley on the weekends and eventually embarked on long expeditions on his BMW. Independently, and often alongside his best friend Dennis, David explored much of the U.S. and Mexico before riding through over 10 countries across Central and South America. After retiring and relocating to Peoria, Arizona, David and Jessie spent the summers road-tripping the U.S. in their motorhome with their beloved yellow lab Nala.

David's work ethic and passion for travel is a legacy he leaves with his daughter Jessica. He was unendingly proud of her accomplishments and travels, which wouldn't have been possible without his influence. His legacy will live on as she gets ready to get married and start a family of her own.

A man of God, David now rests in peace with our Heavenly Father. He will be missed.

A memorial service is planned for Friday, May 26, 2023, at Discovery Pointe Church in Peoria, Arizona.
