David's obituary

David Thurman Smoot, known to many as “Dave Saint” from his career in radio and television, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at home. He was 69 years old. Born on December 11, 1955, in Peoria, Illinois, David's early entertainment career took him from New York to Dallas, Tampa, and eventually to Chicago. He later settled in Glenview, Illinois, where he built a family and a successful business in lighting and sales.

David's professional journey was nothing short of impressive. Among his many achievements, his time on both radio and television left a significant mark on the industry. As "Dave Saint," he captivated audiences in New York, Dallas, Tampa, and Chicago with his engaging voice, humor, and enthusiasm. In television, he hosted and produced shows that reflected his love for music and storytelling. David's unique style and natural charisma made him a beloved figure in the entertainment world, and his influence resonated with listeners and viewers alike.

After leaving the entertainment industry to focus on building his family, David transitioned into a successful career in sales and lighting. His business acumen was remarkable and admired by his peers. His natural ability to connect with people, along with his strong work ethic and dedication to service, allowed him to thrive in his new field. David found great fulfillment in helping others and continued to build meaningful relationships throughout his professional journey.

A devoted husband and father to six children, David found immense joy as the family "camp counselor," carefully planning family vacations and creating lasting memories with those he loved. His deep commitment to family, sense of humor, and ability to cherish every moment defined his life.

David is survived by his wife, Charlene, his children, Justin (44), Brittany (40), Brogan (34), Preston (31), Carrigan (29), Hudson (26), and his sister, Donna. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and the many listeners and viewers whose lives he touched.

A memorial service will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help (OLPH) in Glenview on January 18, 2025. Visitation will begin at 12:15 PM, followed by Mass at 1:00 PM. A celebration of David's life will follow at Grandpa’s Place restaurant where family and friends will gather to share stories and honor his memory.

David Thurman Smoot, “Dave Saint,” leaves behind a legacy of joy, laughter, and love. While his voice may have faded from the airwaves, his impact on those he met—especially his family—will continue to resonate for years to come. His humor was infectious, his passion inspiring, and his entertainment unforgettable. Those who knew David were drawn to his charisma and entertained by his wit. His silly yet amusing persona will live on in the memories of his friends, family, and all those fortunate enough to have known him. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, and friend, whose spirit will remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
