My deepest condolences to Dave's family. I was lucky to have worked with Dave for many years in NY and Bangalore and I, like many others, learned so much from him: about managing by walking around and connecting with people, about the value of questioning the status quo and spirited debate, about focusing on the things that matter. He was a true leader who established a positive, deep and long lasting culture in the Bangalore office. And he also knew how to have fun. Some of my favourite memories among many: Dave riding his scooter to the office through Bangalore traffic (or often him letting us know he'd be late for a meeting because the scooter wouldn't start!); an impromptu bicycle race during our tour of the Infosys campus (yes, Dave won!); GS Bangalore cricket tournaments (where Dave managed to translate his baseball skills to lethal effect); Dave looking super cool dressed as Neo from the Matrix at the first GS Bangalore holiday party. He will be remembered with fondness, admiration and gratitude. Dave Ferris

I would like to offer Dave's family my heartfelt condolences. David was a great friend, a great business partner and an all-around great guy who made my life better.

David and I met in college and became teammates playing Pit Hockey at Stony Brook. David was super competitive and loved to win! We came up short one goal in the semi-final and David would always reminiscence that we would have won the championship if only we won that game!

We reconnected twenty (20) years after college and re-established our friendship and began looking for a real estate development project. Fortuitously, we found a townhouse project in Jersey City that was 2 blocks from David’s Goldman Sachs’ office. Prior to the start of that project, I was David’s housemate in Connecticut for about six (6) months. I was deeply grateful for David’s generosity and benevolence. We would periodically run or workout together and every session was a semi-competition which got me in better shape and kept me working out on my “off days”.

David was always willing to share everything he had. During that period, David taught me many little life secrets that made my life easier and simply better. He would continue to share his wisdom throughout our friendship.

After our project was finished, David moved to Brazil and then Florida. I am fortunate that I was able to visit him in both places and our friendship will be sorely missed. I am eternally grateful that David was my friend and may he rest in peace.

For fifty years or so, Rave has been a close friend. From 3:30 at the park, Kutshers summer camp, marathon poker games, Dead shows, Dino dinners, Rave was a core part of our Baldwin crew. So many stories, but one I will share is the infamous, combative "SWEJ" hockey game at BSHS. I was roughed up by a much much larger opponent, basically knocked out; the first to "drop the gloves" in my defense was of course the Rave. He wouldn't back down, he was proud, he was loyal, and he was tough. Rave was one of a kind, he will be missed, but will always be remembered.

David you ran the toughest race of your life you may have not have crossed the finish line but in spirit you did. You had the courage of a Lion with your Lioness Paula every step of the way comforting you and fulfilling every need to get you thru such a debilitating process. If her love could have saved you, you would still be alive today. I treasure the T-shirt you gave me and will cherish it forever. Fly free my friend, Rest In Peace.💔Rosa Loredo
I met Dave in 1980 as freshman at Stony Brook University on Long Island. We hit it off from the beginning and were roommates from 1981 through 1985. We shared a mutual love of sports & it was that common bond that strengthened our friendship over the years. Dave was very competitive, passionate & a born leader. It was these traits that allowed him to be successful in sports, his professional career, as a father, brother, son & friend.
I would like to offer my condolences, thoughts & prayers to Dave’s family & friends.

I want to say how very sorry and saddened I am by the loss of my longtime friend, Dave. Dave and I met in high school, his Baldwin guys and my Merrick girls. We all created so many great memories and had so many laughs together. My fondest memories are filled with Dave and I listening to Springsteen, going to Roosevelt Raceway and riding in his Datsun and his MG. I’ll never forget the time I totaled his father’s new car, while Dave was teaching me how to drive a stick shift. As I panicked, Dave, in his easy going way said, “it’s fine , don’t worry about it.” Over the years , we have still kept in touch and up to date on each other’s lives. Since we were 17, Dave never failed to call me on my birthday, which attributes to his kind and caring demeanor. I treasure my memories of Dave and he will always hold a very special place in my heart. My deepest condolences to his family.

My deepest condolences to the Simons family on your terrible loss.
I worked with Dave for several years, when he was in India and then back in NY.
He had an irrepressible love for the teams who worked for him and a deep commitment to the value of doing the right thing. But, when at work, more than anything he was humble and just loved to roll up his sleeves and get down into the details of the issue. He taught me a lot about the books and records (he sure loved T accounts!) but, without realizing it, he probably taught me the most about team leadership. He was a humble and genuine leader who never asked anyone to do something that he wouldn’t do himself.

To his daughters and son: your dad talked about you a lot. He was super proud of you, and I’m sure you were super proud of him. You certainly can be. It was a privilege to have known him.

I will never forget David showing up to visiting day in his Vibram Fivefingers Running Shoes.. the best visiting day outfit to ever walk through the Wah-Nee gates. He was one of the most kind hearted fathers I knew and I could never help but smile when overhearing him facetiming Annie or Betsy. Or when Betsy and I would dress up as twins to play doubles and say we're twins.. but not with each other! David always thought that was funny. The love he had for his family and children is unmatched and will live on forever and ever. Rest easy David, you will be terribly missed. All my love
Completed shocked and saddened when I heard the news. My heartfelt condolences to his girls, son and near and dear ones.

David was a man of many parts and one of the most original out of the box leaders I ever knew. So many ideas and suggestions, some as whacky as they come and some completely brilliant! Dona has already said much of our heady days when we set up GS India and learned so much from him. A true leader who always practised what he preached. And didn't give a damn about appearances but always focused on the core content of who you were. Still remember when showed up in sandals at the Leela Palace for a dinner with a GS Mgt committee member, "in sandals" and when we looked at him in amazement, he said, "guess I should have worn a tie huh". Priceless, wonderful loving and memorable David. We will miss you!
