David's obituary
David Edward Posey (78), of Homosassa, FL, passed away Wednesday February 21st . David was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Harry Posey and Grace Myers Posey. When David was 9 they moved the family to Gulfport, Florida where David quickly fell in love with the sea and became an avid sailor. As a teenager he was featured in Yachting Magazine as the winner of One of A Kind Race. David attended Boca Ciega High School and later the University of Florida. David served in the US Navy during Vietnam, though he was never even on a boat. After returning, he married his wife of 50 years, Patricia Ann Walker.
David continued his love of sailing in St. Pete working for Jonson Sails and Boston Whaler. He spent weekends racing boats and bringing home trophies. He then moved his family to the Palm Beach County where he started his own sail making business, Posey Sailmakers, that he owned for 25 years. He still raced on weekends and taught his daughters to sail and love the water as much as he did. Family vacations revolved around a marina, a beach and a boat, making memories in the sun. After retiring, David could be found with his family enjoying the water and fishing with a plate of shrimp, crabs and a Busch every chance he got. David was a devoted husband and proud father who never missed an event in his children’s lives. He was always willing to help, as long as you did it his way, and though quiet, he would always throw in something sarcastic to make you laugh.
David was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Barbara Posey. David is survived by his wife Patrica, his sister Virginia Daniel, Daughters Shannon Brittain (Jeff) and Alysia Lorenzo (Lazaro). He left 5 wonderful grandchildren including a set of twins from each daughter, Samantha, Alex, Jason, Sophia, and Julianna who will all tell you he was an expert paper airplane maker. Though he will be dearly missed here, we know that he’s enjoying time with his family, best friend and sailing partner, and listening to Buffet, that he had even done work for and sailed with a few times.
A small family service will be held at a later date.
