David's obituary
David Overton, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on December 1, 2025, at the age of 92. Born in Staten Island, New York on August 1, 1933, David was the second oldest of eight children and grew up in a bustling home where responsibility and resourcefulness took early root.
As a teenager, he worked alongside his older brother, selling ice and coal from a box truck throughout New York City—humble, steady work that shaped his lifelong ethic of service and perseverance. During the Korean War era, David enlisted in the United States Navy, serving honorably for six years.
In 1953, David married the love of his life, Mary Gladys Reaux. Together they built a remarkable 72-year marriage, celebrating their anniversary in 2025. They raised four children—Jacinta (deceased), Myron, Agnita (deceased), and Corey—and their family grew to include multiple grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought David immense joy.
David worked for more than 25 years with the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority. Outside of work, he found joy in gardening and in fixing anything he could get his hands on—always tinkering, always tending, always improving the world in small but meaningful ways.
He will be remembered for his steady presence, his generous spirit, and the deep love he held for his family. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched, the family he nurtured, and the countless repairs—large and small—left behind as gentle proof of his care.
