David was one of the most loyal family men i have ever been fortunate enough to know!!! He put everyone before himself especially his beautiful children!!! He took care of me when i was lost and struggling. He also flew down to idaho after winning a bet on the New York Giants against my horrible Carolina Panthers and was a best man in my wedding!!! I have never had a brother/friend like this Brave, Wise Man. ITS NOT HARD TO HOW HE BECAME WHO HE WAS IF YOU KNOW HIS FAMILY!!! SOME OF THE MOST REAL, COMPASSIONATE, AND SELFLESS BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE IN THE WHOLE WORLD!!! I WILL CARRY YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND PASSION FOR LIFE AND FAMILY AND TEACH MY CHILDREN OF MEN LIKE YOU BROTHER!!! TIL WE MEET AGAIN. TI QUIERO MUCHO HERMANO!!! WATCH OVER US!!!

We will always hold his laugh, his smile, his soft spoken words in our hearts forever. He always brought a glow into a room. David may be gone from this earth. But he will live on in our hearts.
With our sincerest love and sympathy. Doreen and Wayne Nero

My heart goes out to The Montoya family, and am so saddened to know of his passing.
When I was around 18, Carla and I devised this plan to try and scare David. There used to be this annoying Aflac commercial where a duck would scream. So I jumped from behind their couch and screamed DUCK as he came in from work. Of course David wasn’t scared, and looked at me like I was a crazy woman and we all laughed hysterically.
David had bought some couches for his home and needed help getting them home. When I arrived, him and little Ray Ray jumped in and we got it done, but I remember most to this day through their interaction how much David loved him.
You could feel the same love whenever he was around his family!
Things that remind me of David: When he was playing horseshoes or poker and his big smiling face or crazy laugh, saliditos, harassing me for sopapillas, his bad ass collection of music, and mostly the joy of being with family.
He will be missed!

Like 20ish years ago I was hanging out with Sonya and their cousins Francis and Stephanie and we decided we wanted to go cruising but we didn’t have a cool car to do it in. They got the crazy idea to ask David to borrow his Impala, even though we were all a little intimidated by him back then. I didn’t think they’d actually do it, I think they chickened out a few times but then we tracked him down and they used their sister and cousin charm on him and his big soft heart gave in and totally let us borrow it.
10ish years later he was my partner in Sonya & Carl’s wedding and I still thought of him as her scary older brother except it turned out he wasn’t scary at all. I remember him cheering me on during rehearsal saying “That’s my partner!” And just being goofy and making it all more fun.
I tell those stories to say what we all already know, he really loved his family and was a fun joyful person. I am lucky to have known him.
Sending all my love and light and prayers to the family, I love you all so much!
