David's obituary
David Samuel Presnell Montgomery
David passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 5, 2024; God called him home at the age of 34. He is survived by his loving wife, Mandy, his parents, Brian and Ann, and his sister, Sarah, all of Modesto. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins who loved him dearly.
David was born on June 1, 1989 in Santa Barbara, California where he lived until his family relocated to Modesto in 1997, when he was 8 years old. David was a wonderful husband, son, and brother. He was an excellent student, having earned straight A’s all through elementary, junior high and high school, and graduated as valedictorian of his senior class at Big Valley Christian High School in 2007. David received a Presidential Scholarship to Westmont College and earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics in 2011. He later received his teaching credential from Brandman University.
David started his career as a private math tutor and was excited to transition to classroom teaching. He worked for two years at Hilmar High School as a math and curriculum support teacher, and was currently teaching 7th grade math at Salida Middle School. He was loved by his students because of the extra effort he put into getting to know each and every one of them.
David married Mandy Howard on August 1, 2020. They merged his love with the board game community with her talent for painting, into a miniature painting business called Brush Up Your Game. David was also very involved in several communities: Star Trek Attack Wing, Pokemon, Central Valley Board Gamers, and more. He ran a successful You Tube Channel and was sought out by board game enthusiasts everywhere. He loved to teach people, whether through school or a board game. Watching people have that “Aha!” moment gave him the greatest satisfaction.
David will be missed immensely by all who loved and knew him. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 10 a.m. at Neighborhood Church, 5921 Stoddard Road, Modesto, CA.
