I posted a message on FB messenger shortly before David passed. The next day he put a message out on FB that he could no longer answer messages. I have edited to message to the past tense, but the message is still the way I feel:

It’s  was really pretty courageous of David to share both the highs and lows of life with your FB family and friends. I was dumbfounded when reading his post, yet uplifted by your determination to live his remaining days to the fullest. I hope I am half as brave and focused as he was if I find myself in a similar situation. I want everyone to know that his swimming and walking videos have been an inspiration (although i haven’t always done so) to me to try to stay in the best shape as I can. My condolences to Patty and all of the Joseph family.

My cousin, my "older brother," my source of laughter, and the one who always made me feel special. I will miss you always, David. We spent our youth in each other's orbit - living in the same house on Commonwealth. I looked up to you, I called on you when I was bullied, you made life look so easy and so enjoyable I couldn't wait to grow older. You have been taken from us far too soon. In loving memory, always Flo.

To my big brother from another mother, I remember the first time. I met you my brother Mikal, brought you to our house from Morehouse. You've always been fly. That's what I'll always remember, may God have mercy on your soul...

I am so sorry for your loss.  Cancer is such a terrible disease.  Please try to take comfort in the fact that his battle is over and that he did not lose.  He actually won!  He won his rightful place with the Lord as one of his beloved children of God.  Continue to cherish his memory and embrace hope and comfort in the knowledge that he is at peace now and that you will be reunited as a family again in God's prescribed time.  May he rest in peace and may your family find peace and comfort.

While I never met David, I had the pleasure of witnessing his zest for life and his love for his wife Patty,  whom I do know personally.  Sometimes it's truly amazing how you can feel as if you know someone just from social media. His humor was contagious, along with his loving little jabs at Patty.  Simply watching their adventures together, shared with David's humor and love for Patty was inspiring. It was beautiful to witness. My sincere condolences to his family, friends, and to Patty.  Love is eternal and what is remembered lives on. Always in my prayers.
