Please consider a contribution to David's Cremation Expenses et al..

Background

Update from Pierre (3/7/21): thank you to those who have already donated. I recognize the names of Dad's classmates from stories that Dad would tell me about growing up in Connecticut, and I deeply appreciate your unique connections with him. My family still remaining in Connecticut continues to form a lifelong connection between me and the Northeastern United States, and I hope to meet some of you in person (again, in some cases).

Dad never liked to think about his mortality, and so he did not leave behind a will, life insurance, or final wishes beyond telling me on his ICU bed that he wanted to be cremated and interred in Taiwan.

My brother and I covered the cost of his cremation for now, and we're uncertain about any funds that may end up becoming available from his estate after all assets and debts are accounted for and balanced. Unfortunately, there are fairly extensive debts, and Dad's latest illness took him by surprise not too long after the beginning of an attempt to rekindle his private consulting business. Working through this financial problem is scary, and so we can use all the help we can get.

The costs will be at least $8900, and they include:
- $1100 for the cremation and associated fees
- $1000 for a roundtrip flight for Miho to carry Dad's ashes between SFO and Taipei
- $6500 (minimum, it appears) for a permanent niche to hold Dad's ashes, like this one: https://www.lungyengroup.com.tw/Product/Pagoda
- $300 for an obituary in the Morgan Hill Times, on March 12, 2021

If we receive more funds than we need to give Dad's ashes a forever home, then the excess will be donated to the Santa Cruz Friends Meeting and/or other organization(s) that we think Dad would appreciate giving some funds in his name.

We'd appreciate the help. Thank you, and "take it easy."
