Dave's obituary
David M. Bastin
Born October 19th, 1956 — Passed July 20th, 2025
David passed away in his home on July 20th at the age of 68.
He is survived by his children: Ben (Evilin), Abby (Nate), Amanda (Peter), and Jeremy (Nicole); his grandchildren, including his eldest granddaughter and her family, as well as Bishop, Caffrey, Silas, Tzeitel, Justin (Tiffani), and Simon. He shared many years and four children with Wendy, the mother of his children, who also mourns his passing. In addition, he is survived by his brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, and many friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Francis; his son-in-law, Peter; and many other family members and friends.
David—or, as some of us called him, “Crazy Dave”—was known for his work-hard/play-hard personality. When there was work to be done, he was always the first to step up. But once the work was done and it was time to relax… watch out. That’s when “Crazy Dave” showed up. His silliness and goofiness would be on full display, and you knew everyone was in for a good time.
He also loved shenanigans, Sharpies, and family—especially when all three collided. Whether it was mud fights at family get-togethers, tossing his kids, nieces, and nephews into the pool, or his legendary “can opener” jump, David made sure everyone had a laugh and left soaking wet.
Christmas was his favorite time of year. The tree didn’t come down until February, and the chaos of pets racing around it—especially the time the cat chased the dog and toppled the whole thing—only made him love it more. After that, he tied the tree up and even nailed it to the wall.
Growing up in Monches, he and his brothers were affectionately known as the “Monches boys.” If something mischievous happened in North Lake or Monches, they were the first ones questioned. They even had a reputation for terrorizing the greenskeeper at the Chenequa Country Club.
Some of the stories that will live on include his famously creative ability to invent new curse words when the Packers were losing, and the time he climbed the antenna tower of his house wearing a Halloween mask to scare his kids through their second-story bedroom window.
He will be remembered for his generosity, strong work ethic, playful spirit, and the deep love he had for his family, the Packers, and his Harleys.
A celebration of David’s life will take place on August 16th at Agape Church in Pewaukee from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend.
