David's obituary
David A. Martinez III, Born Sept, 10th 1956, Passed away on Wed, Oct 19th, at his home in Cordes Jct, AZ, at the age of 66.
He was well-known throughout Yavapai county and the Verde Valley as a local musician, artist, youth counselor, substance abuse counselor, father, grandfather and friend to so many. Whether it be through his music, friendship, laughter, guidance or his charitable nature, he lived his life in service to others. He was a wonderful father, cherished grandfather and amazing friend and companion. He had an incredible way of making everyone in the room feel included and validated. With a golden sense of humor he relished in making people laugh, and to be made to laugh. He relished in good conversations and in jamming with friends.
Innovative to the core dad was a man who could fix anything. And if he couldn't, by golly he'd figure it out. A total problem solver and brilliant artist. There wasn't anything he couldn't do. A true depiction of hard work, persistence, and integrity. He wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty to do things right, all the while literally whistling through the work. He never let hardship get him down, and he encouraged those of us around him to follow suit. To never play a victim role when you still have two strong hands in front of you. If something went wrong he'd swoop in with a Buddhist metaphor to help aid along the healing process. He was also a damn fine chef who lived for those glutenous moments where triple carbs might be involved.
He was a walking encyclopedia, particularly in the realms of music and classical movies. He loved The Beatles, The Godfather, Alfred Hitchcock and the Twilight Zone and much much more. He was an absolute embodiment of comfort, hope and joy.
He is survived by his 2 daughters, Asia N Phipps and Amber C Martinez. 4 grandchildren, Danica Phipps (15) Panda Slatter (9) Maple Slatter (6) and Amelia Phipps (5). Long time girlfriend Pauline Lee and their 2 dogs Lilly and Khloe, and 2 cats Gracey and Baby Head. Former wives Sallie Cross Shore and Maryann Jay Arter. 2 sisters, Kimmy Jimenez and Ricka Martinez and her 4 daughters. Along with so many that carry many memories of him and the times they shared.
His memorial service will be held from 2 - 5pm on Saturday, November 19th, 2022 at the Clark's Memorial Clubhouse 19 N 9th St, Clarkdale, AZ 86324.
