To the entire Woods Family:
May God continue to strengthen and keep you through this difficult time. Darryl was a very special person and I was very blessed to have met him. Praise God for his life and love for so many.

I'm a writer and words are lost on me that this is the reality. My Uncle Darrells life brought so much joy to everyone he encountered. I halfway joke I was his favorite niece (I mean I am but I digressšŸ˜), the reality is he made each of us feel like his favorite. From the time we were little creeps until full adulthood he had a way of making you feel like you were the only person in the room.
I'm so glad I got to speak to him last week but even more glad I got to collaborate with him on one of my blogs on caregivers because he was an awesome one to our Grandmother, along with his fiance, Sandy.
He had plans on driving down or catching the bus to Florida to visit us, cause he wasn't getting on a plane as he told me and I was looking forward to that visit. Last time we talked, the last time I heard "Simply. Sexy. Trese" in that Uncle Darrell drawl; he was so proud of the changes that he was making in his life. He was optimistic. I can't and won't question God but I'm at peace knowing that Unc knew exactly how I felt about him and I knew exactly how he felt about me. I'll love you forever Dabo... Simply Trese

From your loving daughter, Nicole. I’ll never be the same. To know him, was to love him... a true angel on Earth. Selfless, loving, funny, charismatic, smart, the list goes on and on. Boy, this doesn’t even seem real. Still waiting on our daily, if not hourly, calls on every topic under the sun. I just wish that I could hug one more time, sing one more time, analyze one more time, watch the games one more time, laugh one more time. My father was a true light that lit up the lives of so many.

Dad was just telling me how he was starting physical therapy soon so that he could get back in shape and run with his grandson, Bas, and chase grasshoppers next summer. The week he passed, we had just finished applying for his health insurance and he was approved. He wanted to get dental work done and he was so very happy and proud at the approval. We were on our way to so many good things. He was also planning to visit us soon in Illinois. I had just got him a new MSU shirt to wear to his favorite rivalry game, Michigan State vs Michigan. I knew it was a game that he had always wanted to go to, so I got tickets so that he could see it at least one time in person. We talked about it daily, had the tickets, and were ready. I really wanted him to make that game. My husband said he would go with me in his honor, so I'm still going to go for dear old dad, hoping that he'll be sitting with me in spirit and enjoying it too. I did get a chance to take him to Little Caesars arena to watch the Pistons and Golden State game last year. Boy was his face a glow. He was so happy. I'm going to miss my dad so very much. He was my best buddy. It gives me some peace at how much he was loved and how hard he loved. He saw the positive in everything... he was just so happy. I have never seen someone so humble, even when sick or with hardships... he still had the biggest smile on his face and had the biggest heart, and it was all genuine. He took care of my grandmother with so much care and he thought the world of me. My sisters and I, along with my family and loved ones, will miss him so very much. He has been called home but he'll forever live in my heart. #MyHero #MyBestfriend
