I only learned of Dr. McQuade’s death tonight because a fellow choir member said she couldn’t get an appointment with her audiologist because he died. I asked his name and held my breath. My trepidation turned into tears when I learned the truth that he lost his battle with cancer. He fitted my 86 year old mom with hearing aides and was so sweet, patient, funny, competent and confident—a true gentleman with likability off the charts. He shared his cancer diagnosis shortly after he found out and it was heartbreaking because he did not want to leave his beautiful wife and child. He was taken way too young. CANCER SUCKS!! After my mom died, I dropped off her hearing aids so they may be of use to someone else, and asked about him. I’m very sorry to learn of his passing and pray God gives his family comfort.

My husband was first fitted for hearing aides by Dr. McQuade in 2013. We enjoyed meeting him -he was so down-to-earth and friendly. His running medals and family photos were on display and he liked sharing about his young daughters (who were our grandchildren's ages!) When it was time for an updated set, Dr McQuade offered to have the original set fitted for my 92 year old mother and would not accept payment for having done so. She enjoyed hearing birds again! We last saw Dr. McQuade in July and were moved to pray for him daily as we knew chemo was taking a toll on him. Today when calling for an appointment, we were saddened to learn of his death. We are very sorry for your loss - he was so proud of you all! We shall miss him. May God bring you comfort. Carl and Betty Sample

Dr. McQuade was such an amazing young man. He was very attentive to my elderly mother's audiology needs. The last time we saw him was in July and before we left we had a word of prayer with him and gave him a hug. We pray that God continues to provide the family and his loved ones strength, comfort, peace and understanding now and for the days ahead.

Darrell , you never did anything halfway. You could not read one book, you read entire series. You could not get by with just the baseball glove when you started T-Ball, you needed the batting glove and special bat as well. You collected baseball cards, sports shoes, guns, books, modeling kits, and loved knowing facts about arcane things. Thank goodness Amazon did not exist when you were a child. From your first grade Kangaroo Zippered shoes through to your cavaricci pants in middle school, you knew what you wanted and only that would do. In infancy, I would move your arms and legs in an exaggerated cheer “ Harvard, Yale, or MIT, any one of the three!”. You loved that cheer , smiling and giggling throughout. Of course you took a circuitous route but eventually in your own time and in your own way you earned your PHD. My love for you Darrell will never end. In my mind forever my baby you will always be. Our family tree shed an important and beloved leaf when we lost you. Always know I will be here for Amanda, Harper, and Lillian. You created a beautiful family that will continue to grow and blossom. Love you always and forever, Aunt Tricia

Darrell and my brother Chris went to high school together, I remember Darrell as a very quite young man, and very respectful. I’ll always remember hearing Darrell’s laugh! The two of them would always be cleaning their Mustangs!
Chris would keep me updated on Darrell from time to time, and I’ll always be so proud of Darrell for his commitment to his family and to the commitment he put into his professional career.
Our deepest condolences to his family and to his close friends. Darrell is as an inspiration to us all.
Love Mike Fine
