Darrell's obituary
Darrell Bamberg was born to Louise Griffin and Daniel Boyce on September 24, 1968, in Brooklyn, New York. He was the oldest of four boys. Darrell was a loving family man who took care of his family and those he loved. He was a devoted husband, father, son, grandfather, and brother. Darrell attended P.S. 59 in the Bronx. From there, J.H.S. 118 and graduated from Samuel Gompers High School (with honors!) After High School, he attended the Technical Career Institute (TCI), receiving his associate's degree. During his time at TCI, Darrell started working for the NYC MTA. He began as a cleaner in 1991 and worked up to a Train Dispatcher. In 1997, Darrell joined the Army Reserves. After 28 years of service, Darrell decided to retire. His final retirement date was going to be August 2025. He also ended his long run with the MTA in November of 2025.
Darrell leaves to cherish his memories: his wife of 39 years, Chinita Bamberg; 2 children, daughter Whitney Janique Bamberg and son Bilaal Sayyid Bamberg; 4 grandchildren: Hayden, Jordyn, Zaria, and Imani. His mother, Louise Griffin, his brothers, Derrick (Suzyo), Damien (Michelle), and Unique. One sister, Keisha Duran (Edwin), 11 nephews, and 4 nieces. His goddaughters: Janay, Kayla, Ciara, Shantell, Jayla, and Sarai. A host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends he considered family who loved him dearly. He is preceded in death by his brother David Anthony “the Boss” Bamberg, grandmother Geneva Bamberg, uncles Murry, Leroy, Charles, and aunt Alean.
