Daniel's obituary

Daniel (Dan) Martin Hoban, beloved husband to Martha Formolo, father to Marie Magee (Greg), Erin Ohlms (Todd), Margaret Hoban, John Hoban, Mary Hoban (Robbie), Annie Burgess (Anthony), and stepfather to Sarah Hodsdon (Tim), Matthew Ferency (Jenn), and Peter Ferency (Kendal), grandfather to Michael, Zachary, Caileigh, A.J, Joseph, Liam, Grace, Jack, Ben, Noah, Alex, Abi, McKenna, Xia, Greg, Danielle and Rian, and friend to everyone, passed away peacefully surrounded by family the morning of January 28th, 2024, at the age of 77.

Throughout his life, Daniel had an unwavering passion for the Lord, his family, and automobiles; these all brought him immense joy and fulfillment.

Dan’s life was devoted to continually strengthening his relationship with the Lord and his family; he described time volunteering at church and time with loved ones as “a slice of Heaven.”  He was eager to serve the church in any way whether as a lector, Eucharistic Minister, ushering parishioners to their seats, cleaning, or—his favorite—operating the computer video monitors at Mass and vicariously participating as a choir member.

One of the greatest gifts Daniel gave his children was a strong foundational relationship with the Lord. His children's fondest memories are of hearing their father read scripture from his heavily used Bible. His dedication to his faith and relationship with God is one of the gifts his children hold most dear and cherished.

From a young age, Daniel was fascinated by cars. He could often be found tinkering with vehicles, helping others with repairs, asking complete strangers to look under the hood of their fascinating cars, or lying on the ground checking the condition of a vehicle's undercarriage. His knowledge of cars was encyclopedic, and he delighted in sharing stories about all the different makes, models and years of cars from his childhood through adulthood with anyone at any time.

Daniel will be remembered for his generosity, kindness, and unwavering sense of humor. He had a knack for making his family giggle and brightening the room with his infectious kind words, his blessings and beautiful baby blue eyes. He never judged anyone and only saw the good in everyone he met.

He founded and grew a successful insurance agency and after many years transitioned to an eighteen-wheel big rig commercial over-the-road truck driver. Our Sweet DMH, as his children affectionately referred to him, will be deeply missed by his family, friends, neighbors, and all who had the immense pleasure of knowing him. Daniel leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church (1924 Zephyr Ave, Fort Pierce, FL 34982), an affiliation that Daniel held dear to his heart.

A Mass honoring the life of Daniel M. Hoban will be held on Saturday, February 24th at *10:00 a.m. at his beloved St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church.

Later this summer in Michigan the family will host a celebration of his life for friends and family to gather and honor his memory and share stories of the adventures they shared together.
