Dear friends, family, and strangers:

Thank you. I am overwhelmed with gratitude by all who have felt compelled to support Simon and me as our family forges through this unthinkable transition from three members to two. Dan was the love of my life, my best friend, my home.

If you only knew Dan through his work, you really did know him. He was authentically himself in all that he wrote. He was clever and funny, thoughtful and compassionate, and quirky as heck in all of the best ways. And somehow, in spite of his innumerable wonderful qualities, he was also humble (except when it came to his hair). It is deeply painful knowing that our son will grow up without him, but I am so grateful and proud of him for leaving such a strong legacy behind.

And to those of you who have had cancer or have worried about loved ones through their diagnoses and treatments, I am holding space in my heart for you too.
