Claudia's obituary
July 18, 1948 - November 4th, 2023
On November 4th, 2023, the world lost an extraordinary woman, Claudia Purvis Peacock, whose life-long journey was marked by a limitless commitment to others.
In 1968, Claudia met her soul mate, Lin, igniting a love story that would span five decades. After four years of dating they wed in 1972. Together, Claudia and Lin raised three beautiful children. Their home was full of laughter, warmth, and boundless love. She had a commitment to tradition, opening her house to family and friends for Sunday dinners, Christmas brunch, and gathering to watch any D.C. sports team. Her family was not limited to her biological family. She welcomed over 200 foster children in her home over the span of 27 years, offering a safe and loving environment to those in need. Among them, she embraced and raised Jessica and Gabby as her own.
For 37 years, Claudia devoted her professional life to serving the Department of Justice, spending 18 years with the United States Marshals Service. Her dedication to the pursuit of justice left a permanent impact on many lives. In a remarkable testament to her desire for learning, she earned a degree in International Government and Politics, graduating cum laude just a year after her retirement at age 56.
For five decades, Claudia was a cherished member of Columbia Baptist Church, a place where she found solace, community, and a platform for her faith and compassion. Her unwavering commitment to her faith served as a guiding light for many, and her presence was deeply treasured. Claudia served the Northern Virginia community through her involvement in the Teach One, Reach One program which she founded, as a tutoring program for under-resourced children.
One of Claudia's most extraordinary achievements was the authorship of her memoir, "One Big Family," recounting her journey of fostering and caring for children. Her story served as an inspiration to many and will continue to be a testament to her generosity.
Claudia is survived by her loving husband Lin, her three children Larry, Lauren and Cara, 12 grandchildren, four brothers, three sisters, twelve nieces and nephews and ten great nieces and nephews.
A celebratory memorial service will be held on November 18th at 1:00 at Columbia Baptist Church, Falls Church, VA, where we will rejoice in the life of Claudia and the positive impact she made. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and service that will continue to inspire and uplift the lives of all who were touched by her kindness. She may have left this world, but her spirit and the impact of her selfless deeds will endure forever.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Columbia Baptist Foundation, a cause close to Claudia’s heart.
