I sent Claire a text message the day our director informed us of what had happened. I was holding out hope that she would respond back.
Claire and I grew closer when I started covering for her to do Washington appeals when she goes on vacation. I regret not traveling to Seattle on the numerous occasions I had intended to see her in person. Claire was an incredible friend and coworker.
One of the best things about working with Claire was that she was always willing to lend a helping hand.
All of us who had the pleasure of working with Claire, through good times and bad, will cherish our memories of her. Ultimately, no matter how much you enjoy your job, what matters most are the people you work with, and coworkers like Claire are particularly unique since you don't see them very often and when you do find one, they make a lasting impact.
There was more to Claire than her career accomplishments. She possessed tremendous wisdom, real kindness, and deep compassion.
She is an avid outdoor lover. She loves being at the beach. In fact, she was meant to spend her weeklong PTO on the Oregon Coast. She was so looking forward to that PTO.
Even though Claire is no longer physically with us, her teachings, energy, and memories still inspire me. Everything I know about Washington appeals I learned from her. Her work was a passion rather than just a job.
Claire, thank you for being our colleague, our friend. Your physical presence may be absent, but your spirit lives on. Rest in paradise my friend. You will always be remembered, always be missed, and forever be treasured. Your spirit, your wisdom, and your love will forever shine in our hearts.
I’d rather miss you forever than never have met you.
