Cindy's obituary
Cindy Serrano, born January 5, 1971, in Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away on September 27, 2024, in a tragic car accident while evacuating from the East Tennessee Flood caused by Hurricane Helene. Cindy was a longtime resident of Detroit and Taylor, Michigan, before fulfilling her dream of living near the Smoky Mountains in Newport, Tennessee, where she spent her last years. A celebration of her life will be held at Heritage Hall at the Taylor Recreation Center in Heritage Park, with details to be announced soon.
Cindy’s life was marked by her love for family, her faith, and her vibrant personality. She held her belief in God and Jesus Christ close to her heart, finding strength and comfort in prayer and attending church whenever she could. A proud holder of her GED with a 4.0 GPA, Cindy once dreamed of becoming a police officer. She worked at Value World in Taylor for nearly two decades, where she brought her unique spark and joyful spirit to every day. Later, in Tennessee, she worked for the Beef Jerky Experience and in fast food during the Covid-19 era, before taking an early retirement. Known by all as the life of the party, Cindy’s laugh, energy, and big-hearted personality made her one of a kind—a friend and family member cherished by many. She embraced life with joy, whether she was attending monster jams, hiking, going to the beach, watching scary movies, or dancing and singing with family.
Cindy is survived by her beloved sons, Marc Shawn Serrano, Jonathan Gary Serrano, and Paul Leroy Overfield III; her siblings, Gilbert Serrano (Tess), Alejandro Serrano (Teri), Tony Serrano (Liz), Henry Serrano (Lindsay), Tricia Serrano Kitts (Ron), Tina Caldwell (Tim), and Christy Lopez. Leaving behind many loving nephews, aunts, uncles, friends and co-workers as well.
