Chris's obituary

It is with a heavy heart and remembrance that we announce the passing of Christine Alice "Cricket" Slay, though she preferred the name "Chris". Born on October 17, 1938, Chris walked into the hands of God on July 30, 2025 surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy of strength, resilience, and laughter.

Chris was a woman of great humor & brought joy to those around her. Her mind was sharp, and her stories about life were sure memorable. Chris had a knack for turning even bad situations into good with her positive outlook. Her character also reflected strength; she held a steady spirit through hard times, particularly in her courageous battle against bladder cancer & losing her two children and husband.

She is survived by Issac Arnold Nolen, Jr (brother), Van Langford (grandson), Larry Gardner (nephew), Rick Gardner (nephew), Carla Gardner (niece-in-law), Pamela House (niece), Charles Nolen (nephew), Nancy Nolen (niece-in-law), Cynthia Varga (great niece), Sabrina White (great niece), Frances Cowan (cousin), Rene Ross (great niece), Sandy Livingston (niece-in-law), Diane Vickers (niece), & Richard Vickers (nephew-in-law). As well, she loved and cherished Tommie & Adam McBride (Van's mother & step-father).

She is predeceased by Issac Arnold Nolen, Sr. (father), Lucille Nolen (mother), Frank Slay (husband), Tammy Langford (daughter), Jason Langford (son), Elizabeth Gardner (sister), Lonnie Walls (uncle), and Clara Walls (aunt).

In lieu of flowers, Chris requested contributions be made to either The Cerebral Palsy Foundation or The Bladder Cancer Research Foundation. The family of Chris thanks you in advance for your donation. These donations in her memory can be made at the following website: https://everloved.com/life-of…

Chris’s life was a testament to strength, humor, and her love for her family, especially her grandson Van. She has left an incredible impression on all who knew her, and her legacy will continue to inspire us. We say farewell, cherishing the laughter, love and resilience she left as her legacy on this Earth.
