Charlyne's obituary

On June 5, our beloved Charlyne Young Koester passed away into God’s graces after suffering a medical complication at 67 years of age.  Charlyne was an incredible wife, friend, devoted daughter, niece and cousin to her family members.  She was also a godmother, a dedicated co-worker, and amazing dog-mom to many dogs throughout her life.  

Charlyne met and married the love of her life, Dan Koester, and moved to their "piece of paradise" on Rose Mountain in Dover Arkansas.  She was so happy and lived each day with a young and passionate heart.

Charlyne was born in Houston, Texas on November 12, 1955 to Corrine 'Dub' and Francis 'Mutt' Young.  She graduated in 1974 from Dobie High School in Houston where she was a member of the drill team.  After high school, Charlyne moved to Dallas and attended Southern Methodist University, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1978.  Charlyne went on to earn her real estate license and a Master of Science Education from The University of Texas at Dallas.  She taught science and was beloved by students and teachers alike at several schools in the Dallas area, including The Episcopal School of Dallas.  

Charlyne began her career with Texas Instruments in 2001 and most recently worked with the TI Education Technology Group as the Professional Development Implementation Manager.

Charlyne loved animals, especially dogs.  She grew up riding horses, loved to snow ski and to travel.  Charlyne loved to fish and living in the country with her husband.  Charlyne had a talent for always finding the perfect gift  for those she loved and she never forgot a birthday.  She loved music and was an inspiration to many - living her life to the fullest.

She is survived by her husband, Dan Koester; mother-in-law Joan Koester, brother-in-law Donald (Rhonda), sister-in-laws Joan and Donna (Anthony), cousins, Mary Frances and Gene Gibbons; cousins Ronda and Mark White and their children, Jaxon and Christina; cousins Drs. Wells and Matthew Housson and their children, Elizabeth, Catherine, Annie, and John.  She is predeceased by her parents, grandmother, Clara Wells Brownlee, her aunt Mary Elizabeth Gates and her uncle, Amos Gates.

A memorial mass and celebration of life for Charlyne and will be held Friday, November 10, 2023 at 11 am at St. Rita Catholic Church in Dallas, Texas.  In lieu of flowers,  please donate to the animal charity of your choice.
