Today, something reminded me of a naval officer that I had served under during my  career; a Charles (Tom) Thomas Weaver.  So I decided to do a search for "Charles Thomas Weaver."  A long list came up but then I came across Charles (Tom) Thomas Weaver Memorial Website.  I clicked on that and as I read the obituary, I became convinced that this was the Tom Weaver that I had served with on the USS Vallejo (SSBN 658) in late 1970 and 1971.  He was the weapons officer and I was his assistant weapons officer.  He was single at the time and my wife and I would have him out for dinner occasionally.  When he was being transferred, from Vallejo, he insisted on taking Jo Ann and me out to dinner.   He was a fine man, a great officer and a friend.

When I realized that this was possibly the same Tom Weaver that I had known, I felt that I had to reach out and convey my condolences.  I wish that he and I had been able to keep in touch over the years, but that is how the Navy careers did; you served together and then went on to different commands.  Sometimes your paths crossed and sometimes they didn't.

Leann, I never got to meet you, but I know that I would have liked knowing you.  If this was the same Tom Weaver, then you had the love of a good man.  I know about your loss and feel your pain.  I lost my wife, Jo Ann, in April of this year.  I am truly sorry for your loss.

Dear Leann,

Tom was a sweetheart of a guy.  He always had a smile whenever I saw him.  My prayers are with you and your family.

Dear Leann and kids,

We were so sorry to hear about the passing of Tom. We have fond memories of him, meeting up at Mullenix or spending time with all of the kids.

Although we've haven't seen the family for some time, we remember Tom as a kind soul who always had a smile fir whoever he greeted.

Our thoughts are with you as you celebrate his life and mourn the hole he's left in your hearts.
