Charles, was born in Cub Run, Kentucky to Dorothy Mae Puckett and Willie Daymon Hornback. He had one brother, Gordon and one sister, Pat. At age 12 Charlie’s first job was a golf caddy in Louisville, KY, where his mother was a welder in the shipyard during World War II. Afterward, he worked on the farm until age 15, then worked in Detroit at Auto Plants until age 17. He joined the Navy at 17 …
