Charito's obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Charito Hayag Hicks, a beacon of love, faith, and strength, who left us on April 2, 2024. Born on June 9, 1952 on the island of Mindoro in the Philippines to Generosa and Julian Hayag, Charito's life was a testament to resilience, warmth, and the power of dreams. She leaves behind her husband, Johnny; sons Sean (Angela), ERodney and Joseph (Darnika); grandchildren Shanae, Ja'Sean, Seantel, Jo'Niya, Ny'Kobe, Amber and Tashaun; great grandchildren Tyree, Kingston, Kaisen, Ka'Dir, and Au'Sha; sisters Soledad and Malou; brother Julian Jr., and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends to cherish her memory.
Charito exuded warmth in abundance. Her sweet nature was contagious and brought joy to many, and her bubbly personality made everyone who encountered her feel instantly at ease. A pillar of support and love, she had a sensitive soul and possessed an innate ability to empathize with everyone around her. Charito's skill in the kitchen was unparalleled, and her culinary dishes will be missed as much as her endearing personality.
One of her most significant accomplishments was successfully adapting to the language and customs of a foreign country as a young wife and mother. This experience only testified to her resilience, strength and fearlessness. Her favorite advice, "keep the faith and never give up on your dreams," was not just words but a life principle she practiced and championed.
Charito leaves behind a legacy of great recipes, a generous spirit, and countless memories of love and warmth. Her loss has created a void that cannot be filled, and she will be deeply missed by all who felt her affectionate presence.
A viewing for Charito will be held on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at 12:00 PM, at SouthCare Cremation & Funeral Society - Stockbridge. This will be followed by funeral services at 2:00 PM at the same venue. Everyone who knew Charito is invited to join us as we celebrate her extraordinary life.
She always dreamed of returning to the Philippines, but because of health issues and other mitigating factors, that dream was deferred. It was her final wish to have her ashes scattered on the island of Mindoro where she grew up. In lieu of flowers, we encourage contributions towards the "Charito Hayag Hicks Memorial Fund", created to cover funeral expenses and her return to her final resting place.

In Charito's memory, let us all keep the faith, chase our dreams, and continue to love and support each other. We will miss her dearly, but her spirit will live on in the lives she touched and the lessons she shared.
