I worked under Catie for a few years when she headed the communications department at the NYS Banking Department in the early 2000s.  Now approaching retirement after a 30+ year career in public service I can say confidently that Catie was one of the finest “bosses” I had.  Fortunately we remained in touch for some time after we no longer worked together as I happily discovered her marvelous ginger bread baking and construction skills at her annual Christmas party.  My condolences to Nelson and her children.  Catie was one of the good ones.
I remember Catie fondly from her time at NYC HPD- she will be greatly missed. Deepest condolences to her family.
I am sending my deepest condolences to Catie's family. It was a privilege to know Catie. She truly was a rare and exceptional person whose sense of humor, kind and generous heart, striking intelligence and inside and outside beauty make her unforgettable. I am blessed to have had her in my life. I will miss her for always. Anne Marie XXX

I met Catie only once many years ago, at the Bakerman Christmas party.  I clearly remember the intelligence and kindness that I see beaming out of the memorial photos.  These qualities are timeless, and reflected in life in Nelson, who is one of my best friends in all the world.  It is no mystery to me how these two wonderful people found one another and formed an incredible family.  Kindness and generosity last forever in the people they touch.

Catie was a delight to work with during the 1974 House Judiciary Committee Nixon Impeachment Inquiry.  It was a pleasure to get to know her, as the years went on.  We'd see each other when we gathered at John Doar's house in Dutchess County the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

I fondly remember Nelson going with her to our 40th reunion in Pennsylvania in 2014 and taking that fabulous photo of the staff standing on the steps of the open barn.  I was pleased to meet Morgan when we gathered in May of 2024.

Catie welcomed us into her home and family with open arms and a warm heart. The times we spent with Catie and her family will always be remembered and treasured. Catie was a woman of intelligence, wisdom, determination, and courage.

She will be deeply missed.

I first met Catie a short time after joining Herb Sturz at Trotwood.  From that time forward, every meeting was a special pleasure and, if Herb was around, it was more like a party.
Catie was such a talented and caring colleague at City Planning. She could make any difficult work situation seem like fun. Truly a memorable person.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Catie’s family.  The family from HPD remembers her amazing work and dedication to affordable housing.  She will be long remembered

Catie Marshall you remain in our hearts. I first met Catie in the BVI in 1977 where we danced and laughed and swam the wild sea every day. What always reminds me of Catie? Singing out loud with family and friends. She would lead us in Top of the Chart hits, from Dusty Springfield, to The Beatles, to Don Henley. How can one person possess so many diverse gifts? An artist, a poet, a scientist, a vocal champion for equality, her singing voice like a reassuring caress. She helped me find my own voice.   Thank you Catie. Our deepest condolences to Nelson, Morgan, Ian, Jane, Pop and Josie. Catie’s light continues to shine somewhere in this expanding universe for all of us.

With love and sympathy,

Valerie and Tom Brown and family

Sorry for your  loss and please accept my condolences and sympathies. May her soul rest in peace.
Sending my condolences to Catie's family and sister Jane. I feel very lucky having known her for so many years and seen her passion and energy first hand at BRIC.
Our condolences to Ian and the family.  So very sorry for your loss.

Dear Ian, Nelson and Morgan:  Such devastating news.  My deep condolences.  Catie was a force of kindness, integrity and intelligence with a great sense of humour.  How lucky I was to meet her when she worked at the Economic Development Corporation.  And we remained in touch from time to time since then.  We last saw each other at one of her famous and amazing holiday parties.

Much love to you, Patricia

In honor of  Catie and in recognition of her achievements and the principles she upheld. Her optimism and enthusiam affected us all.

My sincere sympathies to Nelson, Morgan and Ian.

Dear Nelson, Morgan, Ian, Josie and Jane,

I just heard and my heart is hurting for all of you. So many memories!

Love,

Nancy Davis

I met Catie in 1979, when we both worked on Ted Kennedy’s presidential campaign. We had a blast together. Throughout the years, Catie remained devoted to social justice and I loved hearing her speak so passionately about causes she supported. Nothing made Catie smile more broadly than when she talked about her family. My deepest condolences to Nelson, Ian, and Morgan, whom she loved and treasured.
Dear Nelson, Morgan, and Ian: Much love to you during this heartbreaking moment. I treasure my memories of the inimitable Catie; she has left an indelible mark on so many of us and on behalf of social justice. I have been thinking of her during the past two weeks, and now I am thinking of you.

I had the good fortune of first meeting Catie when the two of us were in the same group to join the VERA board. My only regret about that over the years is not spending more time with her. She was a thoroughly decent, caring and wonderful person. If only the world had more Caties -

Ted
