Catie's obituary

Catherine “Catie” Cox Marshall was born on November 25, 1955 in Washington DC and passed away at home in Brooklyn, NY, surrounded by family, on October 26, 2025. Catie attended Milton Academy in Milton, MA and graduated from Brown University in 1978.

Catie was dedicated to equality and justice in both her professional and personal life. In her four decade career as a public servant, she worked for New York City and State housing agencies as a communications leader and spokesperson. She was a committed and passionate nonprofit advocate serving on the boards of the Vera Institute of Justice and BRIC Arts Media.

Catie’s favorite place away from home was North Haven, Maine, where she spent as much time as possible during summers. In her later years she became an avid basketball fan supporting the 2024 WNBA Champions, the New York Liberty. Catie was treasured and deeply loved by her family and friends and will be missed. She is survived by her husband Nelson Bakerman, daughter, Morgan Bakerman, and son, Ian Bakerman, all of Brooklyn, NY. She was predeceased by her parents, Burke and Violet Marshall.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to some of her favorite organizations.
