Carolynn's obituary

Carolynn Sue Ivy Henderson, 72, of Austin, TX died Saturday, January 9, 2021 in Austin, TX after a lengthy struggle with dementia. Carolynn was born on December 14, 1948 to Marvin and Loraine (Gagermeier) Ivy of San Antonio, TX. Growing up in San Antonio, Carolynn was a dedicated ballerina for fourteen years as well as a member of the Alamo Heights High School Spurs Dance team. She also enjoyed spending time at her family's ranch in Cistern, TX both throughout her childhood and as an adult, sharing this with her daughter Melissa.

Carolynn completed her Bachelor’s degree in 1971 from her beloved University of Texas at Austin. Upon graduation, she worked in state and national politics for many years, including work at the Texas Legislature, Railroad Commission and Comptroller’s Office for over thirty years.

Carolynn was an avid UT Longhorn football fan, never missing a game if she could help it, and continued her love of dance throughout her life, though in her adult years it was more two-stepping and less ballet. She loved the beach and fishing. Being outside in general brought her joy and she could often be found working in her yard. She never met an antique she didn’t love and want to refurbish, and her dream had been to buy an old house and fix it up herself. She also loved to travel the world with her parents, Loraine and Marvin, and daughter, Melissa. Together they visited over twenty countries across Europe, the Caribbean and Australia, and she was able to fulfill her lifelong dream of visiting St. Petersburg, Russia. As time passed, she developed new hobbies like attending live concerts and theatre events with Melissa. Her memory will live on in her friends and family.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter Melissa Ivy Henderson, son-in-law Drew Valcourt and granddaughter Cassandra Valcourt.

She was preceded in death by her parents Loraine G. Ivy and Marvin M. Ivy and brother, Richard M Ivy.
