Background
More than just about anything, Mom loved UT football. One of my favorite stories is the time I came home from my dad's house one weekend after the Longhorns had lost to the Houston Cougars (she would later swear it was the OU Sooners who had beaten them that day) and my mom was gluing back together a solid wooden step stool that had been mine since I was a baby, and when I asked her what had happened, without looking up, she very calmly replied, "bad call" and kept right on gluing. Dementia robbed us both of many things, but I will always think of that story and of her when I think of UT or football or UT football.
The Darryl K Royal Research Fund for Alzheimer's Disease (named for legendary UT football coach Darryl K Royal) represents the pinnacle of commitment to excellence in Research and Care for Texans to attempt to cure Alzheimer's disease (AD) in our lifetimes, to expand research into Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), and to expand the paradigms of care and access for Texans, enabling exposure to preventative care and treatment strategies aimed at combatting the epidemic of AD.
