Carmen Altagracia Matos, 70, passed away on March 25, 2026, in New Rochelle, NY.

Born in the Dominican Republic, Carmen immigrated to the United States in the mid-1980s, where she built a life centered on family, career/professional advancement and interpersonal connections. She was a devoted mother, a woman of faith, and someone whose warmth and energy left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

Carmen had a natural gift for bringing people together. She loved cooking, hosting, and filling her home with laughter, good food, and lasting memories. Whether spending time with loved ones, caring for animals, or enjoying her favorite TikTok videos, she found joy in both the simple and meaningful parts of life.

Professionally, Carmen built a dynamic career rooted in relationships and trust. She worked as an advertising sales representative at Noticias del Mundo, a prominent, Spanish-language newspaper in New York City throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, and later held roles in the financial services industry, including serving as a Territory Sales Manager at Western Union. No matter the industry, she was known for her ability to connect with people, her reliability as a teammate, and her vibrant, straight-shooter personality. Those who had the privilege of working with her often said she lit up every room she entered.

She is survived by her loving children, Rosenelly and Rebecca, her grandpets Tito and Minou, her siblings David, Manuel, Luís, Rossy, and Inmaculada, and a small army of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and family friends who all can share in the heaviness of her loss and the absolute joy of having loved and been loved by her.

Carmen’s legacy is one of love, resilience, and connection. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew her.

Nacida en la República Dominicana, Carmen emigró a los EstadosUnidos a mediados de los años 80, donde construyó una vida centrada en la familia, el avance profesional y las relaciones interpersonales. 

Fue una madre dedicada, una mujer de fe y justicia, y alguien cuya calidez y energía dejaron una huella perdurable en todas las personas que conoció.

Carmen poseía un don natural para unir a las personas. Le encantaba cocinar, ser anfitriona y llenar su hogar de risas, buena comida y recuerdos imborrables. Ya fuera pasando tiempo con sus seres queridos, cuidando de animales o disfrutando de sus videos favoritos en TikTok, ella encontraba alegría tanto en los aspectos sencillos como en los más significativos de la vida.

En el ámbito profesional, Carmen forjó una carrera dinámica cimentada en las relaciones y la confianza. Trabajó como representante de ventas publicitarias en Noticias del Mundo —un destacado periódico en español de la ciudad de Nueva York— durante la década de 1990 y principios de los años 2000; posteriormente, ocupó diversos cargos en el sector de servicios financieros, llegando a desempeñarse como Gerente de Ventas Territoriales en Western Union. Independientemente del sector en el que se desenvolviera, era reconocida por su habilidad para conectar con la gente, su fiabilidad como compañera de equipo y su personalidad vibrante y franca. Quienes tuvieron el privilegio de trabajar con ella solían comentar que iluminaba cada habitación en la que entraba.

Le sobreviven sus amadas hijas, Rosenelly y Rebecca; sus nietos peludos, Tito y Minou; sus hermanos David, Manuel, Luís, Rossy e Inmaculada; y un pequeño ejército de sobrinos, primos, tíos y amigos de la familia, quienes comparten por igual el profundo pesar de su pérdida y la inmensa dicha de haberla amado y de haber sido amados por ella.

El legado de Carmen es uno de amor, fortaleza y conexión. Será profundamente extrañada y recordada por siempre por todos aquellos que la conocieron.
