Benny's obituary
Bunthan Chhun, affectionately known as “Benny” to those dear and close to him, passed away on January 18, 2026, at 2:42 a.m. at the age of 46. He was born on June 20, 1979, in Battambang, Cambodia, and spent much of his childhood and adult life in Tacoma, Washington, where he built a community of love, creativity, and deep connection.
Benny was a deeply artistic soul with lifelong dreams of becoming a fashion designer. He expressed himself through music, art, and creativity, always finding beauty in the world and sharing it with others. He was known for being musical, imaginative, and incredibly loving. More than anything, Benny was empathetic, outgoing, and selfless—always putting others before himself.
He is survived by his beloved mother, Chorn Sar; his brothers, Chuck Chhun, Vuthy Chhun, Bun Chhun, Narith Chhun, and Naroth Chhun; and his sisters, Sary Chhun and Sarom Chhun. He is also lovingly remembered by his many nieces and nephews: Jamie Chhun, David Chhun, Charlie Chhun, Pauly Chhun, Kavy Kop, Kevin Kop, Evan Chhun, Tammy Chhun, Tanny Chhun, Thavy Chhun, Neary Ling, Kimberly Ling, Aaliyah Kop, and Maya Chhun.
Benny shared many special moments with his family, especially his nieces and nephews. Memories shared by Maya Chhun and Aaliyah Kop include listening to music together, doing each other’s hair, creating crafts, going on walks and hikes, and simply enjoying each other’s presence. Maya fondly recalls, “Although I didn’t have the best dance moves, he never judged and only made me feel seen and comfortable. And if anyone knew when the newest Beyoncé songs came out, it was him. He was the greatest to be around, and our memories together will be cherished forever.”
His brother, Bun Chhun, remembers creating mixtapes together, watching movies, and spending countless hours listening to music—moments that reflected Benny’s deep love for art and connection.
Benny will be remembered for his warmth, creativity, gentle spirit, and the way he made everyone feel accepted and loved. His presence brought light, laughter, and comfort to those around him. Though he is no longer with us, his love, his art, and the memories he created will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
