Brett's obituary

Brett "Maverick" Hamilton of Leesburg, FL passed away peacefully on August 5, 2023 at Orlando Regional Medical Center after a long battle with cancer.

Brett was born to Earl Hamilton and Doris (Dowdrick) Hepfer on October 23, 1946 in Harrisburg, PA. Brett was an alumni of Hershey High School and Susquenita High School where he graduated in 1965. He went on and served in the United States Navy, obtained a Master’s degree in Human Services from Lincoln University and later retired as a corrections officer from Orange County Prison in Orlando, FL.

Brett achieved sobriety in 1975 and dedicated much of his life to helping others become sober as well. He was the Past Master, Secretary and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason of Groveland Lodge #190 where he spent 25 years of service as well as serving as a member of Valley of Orlando. Additionally, he was an independent and determined individual and selling his apartment house in Groveland to FDOT was a great source of pride for him.

Brett was a great cook, and his cornflake-breaded chicken was legendary. He also treasured his family; His only son, Jason, and his wife visited often and he enjoyed their company but even more he enjoyed seeing his granddaughters and their children as he was a loving grandfather and his family meant the world to him. Brett built unbreakable bonds with wonderful friends who became like family; Denny, Luann, Dick, Cathy, Frank, Guido, Big Bob, Jeff, Kathy, Orlando, and Pat, some of whom he was close to for almost 50 years.

Brett is survived by his son, Jason B Hamilton and his wife, Christine of Sarasota, FL; his wife, Tonya Beatty of Leesburg, FL; his 3 granddaughters; Jillian (Je’Quan) Fairell of Marysville, PA, Cayla (William) Archibald of Duncannon, PA, Meghan (Jake) Janney of Dillsburg, PA; his 9 great-grandchildren and his sister, Dawn Hamilton of Marysville PA.

For those touched by Brett, a small memorial service will be held in his honor at a date and time to be determined by the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Masonic Charities or Cancer Research. Expressions of condolences may be sent to the family.
