I am still missing Brenda, and it has been over a year since she left Vegas on June 18 to get treatment back in Oregon. I don't believe I will EVER forget her, but I am trying to find someone who will help me stop missing her. We definitely were NOT soulmates, but she was a lot of fun to live with.

For some reason, I was wondering where Brenda was because she always posts her trips between Nevada and the Oregon coast. And as I was scrolling down her Facebook page, I noticed the obituary and the tributes. I knew her from doing a meet up hike that we went on several years ago and she was super fast up the hills. I always admired her skiing and her adventurous spirit. My Condolences to her family.!!!

Brenda wrote and published quite a number of poems in middle and high school. Brenda's mother rediscovered newspaper clippings of some of them recently, and so we read this one, written sometime in the late 80's, at her Celebration of Life gathering this past Saturday, 9/23/2023.

Yesterday

Seems like years just slip away

And I’m tired of being sad

Memories are good for awhile

But you can’t regain what you once had

Time is so different now

Retrospectively I smile

Happiness is but a root of life

Even for awhile

Destiny has taken hold

And cannot steer me from my way

Because today is ours to live

And in the present we must stay

Although the past is buried now

Those dreams will not decay

I relinquish but do not regret

The promises of yesterday

One more story! Brenda came on our first rafting retreat down the Deschutes River. What was supposed to be a 100 degree day turned out to be 60 and raining. The Deschutes is FREEZING. Brenda, at 0% body fat was FREEZING. We had to put her in a truck at our lunch spot and turn the heater all the way up to dethaw her. She was such a trooper though! I added a picture from this trip. This is us after on the river, camping and a lot warmer!

Brenda was one of the strongest people I ever met, physically and otherwise! She regularly attended my Bootcamp class. One day we had a forearm plank competition. We had to stop her at 10 minutes because she hadn't yet broken a sweat! She had 5+ minutes on all of us and no signs of stopping. Amazing mental fortitude to take on some of life's greatest challenges with a smile on her face. What a legend!
