Dear Vera and Marko,

Our hearts and mind are with you.

May his soul rest in peace.

Love Vlajinics

I was fortunate to have known and worked with Branko for over two decades and I considered him both a friend and a mentor (just as many others whose lives he touched). He was one of the most accomplishd scholars in our field, but also a teacher at heart, and I treasure everything I’ve learned from him over the years. Gone too soon and dearly missed.

Dear Vera and Marko,

Please accept my deepest condolences on the passing of Branko. I am struggling to find the words to capture the magnitude of this loss, but I wanted to share what an immense honor it was to work under his leadership during his time as the Dean of Hillier College of Architecture and Design.

As the Dean, Branko wasn't just a leader, he was a force of nature. He was truly a man ahead of his time, possessing a rare, panoramic vision that allowed him to see every angle and the full scope of any challenge before the rest of us had even processed the problem. What made Branko so remarkable and such a pleasure to work for, was his ability to translate that massive vision into clear, actionable paths. He never left us guessing, he provided the goals and the guidelines that empowered us to do our best work.

The architecture and design community has lost a giant, and I have lost a mentor whose unique perspective I will deeply miss. His legacy lives on not just in the buildings and designs he influenced, but in the clarity and purpose he instilled in everyone who had the honor of following his lead. Branko's influence is woven into the very fabric of Hillier, and his impact on my own career is something I will carry with me always.

Wishing you peace and strength in the days ahead.

With heartfelt sympathy,

Vesna Veljasevic

Many wonderful memories of Branko, but the one that stands out was Branko approaching Blair and me after an ACADIA presentation, eager to share with us a reflection he had on how to frame our project differently. We've talked about it many times and how selfless and generous it was. He had clearly listened, carefully, to our presentation and his comments had a big impact on our future work, on the way we thought about our work, and how we currently write about it. He expected nothing in return, there was no audience, nothing really in it for him, other than to help us, from a place of genuine curiosity and care. I've had many discussions with Branko since then and they're always like this. He was a mentor without trying to be one, a source of guidance and kindness that grew more robust with age. He will be missed dearly.
I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Branko, who made a big contribution to architectural computation and digital design. I last met Branko at the STRAND Conference in Belgrade this past November, a meeting that now feels especially meaningful. Branko was a kindred spirit, and I will remember him as a generous person who left a lasting impression

Attn.: Professor Gabrielle Esperdy

Dean of the Hillier College of Architecture & Design - NJIT

Dear colleague,

It is with deep sadness that I learned of the passing of our dear colleague Prof. Branko Kolarevic. On behalf of the Faculty of Architecture - Universidade do Porto, I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) community, to the family and friends.

Prof. Branko Kolarevic was a valued member of the academic community and a friend of this Faculty. He was an Advisor on the Digital Fabrication Laboratory (DFL) project, and his collaboration was invaluable, as was his good mood.

His dedication, professionalism and generosity of spirit left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of working or learning with him. He will not be forgotten.

With deepest sympathy,

João Pedro Xavier

Dean | Faculty of Architecture at the University of Porto

With deep sadness, I learned of the passing of Dr. Branko Kolarevic.

He was a distinguished scholar, an inspiring professor of architecture, and a valued member of my doctoral supervisory committee. Throughout my PhD journey, he challenged me to think more critically, to write more precisely, and to approach my work with greater clarity and depth. He did not offer easy answers or excessive guidance—but through his thoughtful presence and high standards, he profoundly shaped my intellectual growth.

Over time, I came to understand just how influential his mentorship was in sharpening both my thinking and my voice as a researcher. His impact on my academic path will remain with me always.

This is a deeply sad moment. My heartfelt condolences go to his family, friends, colleagues, and all those who had the privilege of learning from and working with him. His legacy lives on through his students, his scholarship, and the many lives he touched.

Rest in peace, Dr. Kolarevic. Your guidance and wisdom will not be forgotten.

Dear Vera and Marko,

I was deeply saddened to learn of Branko’s passing. On behalf of Maura and myself, please accept our heartfelt condolences. I had the privilege of recruiting Branko as Dean and Professor to NJIT, and working alongside him was a true pleasure. His sharp intellect, visionary approach to design education, and sincere candor quickly impressed me. What started first as a professional relationship evolved into a meaningful and lasting friendship. In our last exchange during the recent holidays, Branko shared a photo he had taken of a church in my hometown of Byblos, Lebanon. It was remarkably similar to the one I had just put on the cover of my recent book. We had both stood on the same street corner to capture it. I will deeply miss Branko’s presence and our conversations.

Wishing you peace and comfort during this sorrowful time.

Fadi

This news is very saddening. Branko was open, friendly, knowledgeable, and serious. I hope it can be of some consolation to his family and loved ones to know that he was so widely admired and liked.
I send my condolences to the family. He is and was an amazing professor who made a lasting impact on his students.

Our paths crossed on many occasions over the decades, in Delft/Amsterdam, here at the AA and a memorable visit to Calgary. He was erudite and articulate, insightful and for a deeply serious person he could be wildly funny too.

He was a scholar and a gentleman. I count my life richer for having known him.

I am so shocked and saddened to hear the news of Branko's passing.  As Dean at NJIT, he believed in people and purpose, and he believed in me.  Sending love to Vera, Marko, and all of my former colleagues at NJIT.

I am currently a Brazilian professor working with performance-based design thanks to Branko Kolarevic’s vision. Even though I never had the opportunity to know him personally, the influence of his work, and of his very existence, on my own path is undeniable.

In this sense, I am deeply saddened by his passing and wish strength to his family and friends. Like all those he inspired and continues to inspire, we will strive to preserve his academic legacy.

I’m truly sorry for his loss. I met him on several occasions and at conferences, most recently at eCAADe in Graz. Beyond his work, I remember him as a generous, kind, and humble human being.

My sincere condolences to his family. This is a great loss for the academic community and the field of design computation.

Such sad news. Branko was so supportive at my first ACADIA conference in the early 2000s, advice & beers, was like having a instant coach - on the first day I meet him. Little did I know he always like that: generous, inclusive, and connecting people & ideas. you'll be missed

He was more than a brilliant academic; he was a great mentor, listener and a genuine person.

I feel incredibly privileged to have known him as a professor, a mentor, and a friend. His legacy lives on in the books he wrote throughout the years and the students he inspired.

He will be greatly missed. My heartfelt condolences to Vera and Marko. May he rest in peace.

So sad to hear this news. Branko gave a lot to all around him. He was an important source of wisdom in the international computational design community.

Sincere condolences to the family.

Dragi Branko, lesna ti zemja, golem choveku. Ne mi se veruva.

I'm heartbroken to hear this terrible news. Branko was a colleague and a friend - the type you could always count on.  A talented researcher, dedicated educator, inspiring leader and honest to the core. Travelling the world and spreading the word was a passion - his mind was in the west (USA) and his heart in the East (Serbia), but he cherished everything in between. He loved the European tradition of coffee and conversation in the piazza, and we would exchange photos of the many piazzas we both visited on our travels. He still had many plans for the future, both personal and professional, and he left us far too soon. Rest in peace, dear friend.
i am very saddened to hear this news ,, my heart goes out to Vera and Marko,, we are with you in these distressing times:( praying for him, the family, and his former students 💔
Branko was a force of nature and I was lucky to have had benefitted from his guidance. Sending lots of love from Calgary to Vera and the family.
