Bob's obituary
Our cherished Bobby Arnold Rains, age 64, of Sweetwater, TN., departed from his earthly body in exchange for his Heavenly one the morning of Wednesday, February 2, 2022, a date that he would be rather impressed with as he was rather infatuated with satisfying numbers. He is survived by his loving wife Charlotte and was a fiercely proud, devoted father to his “spawn” Kristin Nicole, Caleb, and Maddy.
Born July 10th, 1957 in Fort Worth, Texas to Mileen “Carol” Murphy and Herbert Owen “Buddy” Rains, Bob was a remarkably talented and resourceful man with a lion heart and knack for problem solving. Not one for conventional rule following, it is only appropriate that he graduated a Rebel from Richland High School in 1975. He was “on his way to Mission Beach, California” when he met the love of his life (Chim Chim) and planted roots in Bedford, Texas, for much of his adult life. Professionally, he worked as a glazer and estimator, however, he spent an exorbitant amount of his time serving as a mentor during his long-established tenure as Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America, consequently inheriting many honorary children along the way. He was exceptionally passionate about the wilderness and adored camping, fishing, hunting, and enjoying God’s beauty everywhere he went. All too frequently, he asserted that “this is where God is” when referencing the great outdoors. He loved to cook and was especially particular about how to properly smoke meats. Additionally, Bob enjoyed painting barn quilts, woodworking, gardening, petting all the dogs, and watching black and white monster movies. An avid Sooner, Dodger, and Raider fan, he seldom missed a game.
Most importantly, Bob would do anything to make those he loved smile and was frequently playing pranks on those he was closest to. To be loved by Bob was to be teased by Bob. Anyone that truly knew him, knew he loved in a complete, unconditional, and unwavering way. He’d give you anything, even if it wasn’t his to give, and never hesitated to champion those in need of a hero. To have Bob believe in you was to experience a confidence so great, you could take Sugar Ray Robinson’s perfect left hook square to the jaw and remain standing upright, unfazed. His loyalty extended wider than the state of Texas and there was nothing he didn’t have the answer to.
Bob deeply loved Jesus. His family finds overwhelming comfort and peace knowing he is now free to cause tremendous mischief in Heaven.
A celebration of the magnificent life this magnanimous man lived will be held at The Dwelling Place Church (2805 W Arkansas Ln., Arlington, TX, 76016) at 1:00pm on Saturday, February 19th, 2022. Attire requested: blue jeans, cowboy boots, and your favorite jersey of choice (unless it is burnt orange).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations please be made in his honor to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation: https://donations.nfwf.org/pa…
