Beverly's obituary
Beverly Carol Nelson, 78, passed away on December 18, 2022 in Dunedin, Florida. She was a loving wife of 39 years to her previously deceased husband Dennis Walter Nelson and leaves behind her children and grand children. She was a devoted and ever-loving mother and grandmother to her daughter Catherine Ann Nelson-Hyden and son-in-law Scott, her son Brian Richard Nelson and daughter-in-law Lauren along with grand-children Liam and Brennan, and her son Erik Walter Nelson and daughter-in-law Katherine along with grand-children Oliver, Jude, Felix, and Milo.
Born in Phoenix, Arizona, she was predeceased by her father Herbert McReynolds, her adopted mother Darlene McReynolds, and her brother Richard McReynolds.
Raised in Ventura, California, she developed a love for drama and musical theatre while attending Ventura High School. She began her young adult life residing in Ventura and Oxnard California, but also briefly lived in Hope, Michigan, and eventually landed a job as a switchboard operator at Vetco Offshore Industries, Inc. where she met the love of her life Dennis. Beverly and Dennis married in 1976 in Houston, Texas. She and her daughter Cathy then hilariously traveled to Alberta, Canada to meet Dennis's relatives on their own before finally joining him in the Republic of Singapore for a new overseas adventure. In Singapore her son Brian was born. Finally, Beverly and her family moved to Houston, Texas in the early 1980s where her son Erik was born, settling in Texas for many decades. Through those years, Beverly developed life-long relationships with educators, parents, and students in the Cypress Fairbanks Independent School District as a volunteer. By volunteering and ultimately managing the entire volunteer program at both Arnold Middle School and Cy-Fair High School, Beverly impacted so many lives in such a passionate and significant way through classroom reading, one-on-one mentoring, and supporting countless activities in the drill team, drama, and band departments. Even well after her own children graduated and left the school system, Beverly could be found walking the halls of Cy-Fair and Cy-Falls High School with her signature picnic basket full of candy and dollar bills as kids screamed "MRS NELSON!" and surrounded her for the love and support (and maybe a piece of candy) she provided to every student she encountered. Beverly was also an avid doll collector, collecting thousands of different dolls over her lifetime. She was one of the few people in the world who was able to collect the entire Annette Himstedt Vinyl Collection. An impressive collection of over 400+ dolls from one of Germany's premier doll artists.
As her and Dennis's children grew up and moved away, Beverly and Dennis eventually bought and retired to their dream home overlooking the Brazos Valley, affectionately called Vista Oaks. When Dennis passed away, Beverly moved to Media, Pennsylvania to be closer to her sons and grand-children, again continuing her love of volunteering by reading in her grand-children's classrooms and supporting their first and subsequent drama and musical theatre productions. In 2022 she decided to move to Clearwater, Florida to live with her daughter Cathy and son-in-law Scott. She always loved the Pinellas County beaches, where she and her family traveled to Dunedin and Indian Rocks Beach every year for nearly 20 years. It is only fitting that the Lord took her into heaven surrounded by her loving children residing in her most favorite quaint town in Florida, Dunedin.
