Ben was more than a teacher; he was a guardian of nature’s beauty and the silent yet powerful influence of the everyday. He taught me that art isn’t just something found in galleries or grand landscapes; it’s woven into the fabric of our daily lives. Whether in the delicate veins of a leaf, the soft light of a morning sunrise, or the intricate patterns formed by the simplest objects, Ben showed me that beauty is always present, waiting to
ben was a consummate professional and gentleman.  i had the pleasure of working with him on and off over the past 20 years, and i always enjoyed it.  he was serious about architecture and integrity, but always made room for some humor - much appreciated.  a couple of months ago we started trying to get together & catch up, and it's incredibly hard to believe he's gone.  he adored his family and spoke so highly of jenny and the kids (recently including grandkids!) .  my deepest condolences to them all.
My condolences to you, Jenny, and to all of Ben's family. You have been in my thoughts and in my heart today.  It has been decades since our wonderful days together.  Friends together at the start of grown-up living.  Today my thoughts rested in the memory of hanging out with you and Ben in the house at the edge of the hill, next to little Madison Park, overlooking old Dubuque.  It was a good place to start.

To Jenny and the family, We go way back to Ben's first day on the Job at NavFac. in the late 80's.   He was so kind and easy to work with and he taught me so much. We quickly became friends partially since we both Loved Porsches. He wanted another one and I wanted my 1st one.  By coincidence, and without the other knowing, it happened;  we both acquired  911's in the same month!  That just made our friendship even better.  I'll never forget the time we spent together with our cars.  And I'll always cherish how much we loved our families.  Mention Jennys name and Ben's Smile would light up the room.  What a great Guy.

Ben was the BEST!!!  I'm going to miss my Buddy.

So sorry for your loss. Ben was a good man. He loved his family. He was a good man.He loved his dog, Augie.
Sending lots of love and prayers to Ben's family and to Ben's brothers, Bill and Bruce.  My first cousins.  Childhood memories of when we got together are precious to me.  I am forever grateful for Ben's help in sharing family information as I put together our shared maternal lineage in our book:  "Unraveling the Knot and Tying it all Together" - From Schleswig-Holstein, Germany to Jones County, Iowa.  The Families: Ingwersen, Ahrendsen, Rohwedder, Levsen, Gubel.   Ben joins a host of faithful saints and shared a life journey of generational faith.  Blessings to you, Ben.   Blessings to your own family lineage that continues on as a part of all of us.  Thank you.

Dear Jenny and family,

Beth and I were so sorry to hear about Ben's passing.  I had the great privilege of sharing my early architectural career with Ben …..starting out with moonlighting work at his home in Dubuque, and partnering in our work for several years.  He was such a talented architect, designer, and true mentor!  I take great pride in the many projects we worked on together.  I fondly remember our Lower Main Street Historic Preservation Study that we prepared for Dubuque more than 40 years ago, which I’m certain was a catalyst for his continuing passion with preservation work.

You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Fondly, Beth and Bob Hartig

Ben one of the most down to earth easy going and always pleasant people I know. He truly is missed by me and I know a ton of other people that were lucky to be a part of his circle of family and friends . RIP
Ben was a stellar architect and trusted Navy staffer. He was not afraid to advocate preservation and worked to ensure that the mission and history complimented each other. He will be missed. Len Winter/Historic Preservation Officer (Retired)
Jenny, there are no words we can say to express how sorry we are to hear about Ben’s passing. Please know that we are thinking of you and your sweet family and wish you comfort and strength during your time of sorrow.
Jenny, I recall how much time you two spent with one another. You were virtually inseparable. May all your wonderful memories give you peace and comfort during this challenging time.

Oh boy, I don’t know where to begin:😢😢

Marty and I are so incredibly sorry for your loss. That sounds so trivial, right? Will, Tony, and Jason remember your dad with great fondness. Your dad and mom made the call to get my Marty and I together and were at our  tiny wedding  almost 39 years ago. Our Jason and our beautiful blue eyed and most wonderful Joey had stories that they weren’t able to share when we ventured to Charleston 🤐🤔🤫. Obviously a blast to say the least.

I can only feel a bit of what you are experiencing right now. My dad died too early for me. A lasting legacy to say the least. Like my father, your dad was a strong and good man. He was smart, LOVED his family,  LOVED  his friends and worked extremely hard. And he absolutely found the perfect mate in your mom…smart, witty, and fun! What a combo!

We will not be able to attend the “celebration” . We leave out of country this weekend. Crap!!!!

We want to come to y’all within 3-8 weeks. Is that possible?

Please PLEASE know that you are forever in our hearts...

Loving each and every one.

My Marty and Nancy Comer McNamer

I'm so sorry to hear of the passing of a great classmate & church friend. Growing up in Dubuque  class of 68  & going through confirmation class with Ben  are great memories to cherish. I'm so glad I got to visit with him at our 50th reunion & got a picture of us remaining confirmation class from St. Peter's Lutheran church. Ben had a kind demeanor & a smile that could light up any room. You will be missed by many ! RIP Ben.    Condolenses to Ben's family at this difficult  time in their lives.  Linda , McNamer Kelly
