Personal note

Eulogy for Barbara Versaci
Dear friends and family,
Today, I am filled with memories of my mother, Barbara Versaci, a woman whose life was filled with love, laughter, and spirit. Born on February 28, 1932, in Brooklyn, and later a resident of Nanuet, Mom’s 91 years were a testament to a life richly and fully lived.
In her professional life at the New York Telephone Company (Verizon) Mom was more than just an employee; she was a fierce advocate as a union steward, always ready to stand up for justice and fairness. This fighting spirit was a hallmark of her character.
Mom's passion for life was evident in everything she did. Her love for shopping on QVC was legendary. It’s rumored that QVC went dark the day she left us, such was her enthusiasm for their products. Her generosity knew no bounds; if you admired a piece of jewelry she wore, she would give it to you immediately, always with a twinkle in her eye for her next shopping adventure.
Her adventurous spirit extended to fitness trends, from the Thigh Master to a pyramid-shaped teepee for meditation in our basement. Each new fad was embraced with her typical zeal and a firm belief in its revolutionary potential.
Mom's sense of humor was one of her most endearing qualities. She had this unique practice of freezing the names of those who crossed her – a playful approach to life's challenges that many of us have adopted. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
The Middlewood Senior Complex was a haven for Mom, where she made countless friends and relished in activities like Bingo and casino visits. Her laughter and joy during these times were infectious.
My relationship with my mom was filled with arguments and laughter. We fought every day, but more importantly, we laughed every day. She taught me to view life with humor and positivity, a lesson that has been my stronghold in tough times.
Being on the receiving end of one of Mom's spirited tirades was a rite of passage. She loved deeply, laughed heartily, and lived her life to the fullest. Her strength, humor, and unconditional love are her legacy – a legacy that will continue to inspire and guide us.
As we say goodbye to my mother, Barbara Versaci, let's not dwell in sadness but celebrate the joy and love she brought into our lives. Let's honor her by embodying the same courage, laughter, and love that she exemplified every day.
Mom, your spirit, your laughter, and your love will forever remain in our hearts.
Thank you, Mom, for being the extraordinary woman you were and for lighting up our lives with your presence.
