Barbara's obituary
Barbara Renee Shotlander, nee Berkowitz, age 77, passed away in Cherry Hill, NJ on June 16, 2024. She was born on September 15,1946 in Newark, New Jersey. She lived most of her life in Hillsborough, NJ, before retiring to Lake Worth, FL.
Barbara dedicated her life to her family and her career in education. She very much valued education. After graduating from Union High School, she completed her degree in Education at Temple University. Years later, she earned a Masters Degree in Special Education from Kean College. Her most gratifying role was that of a Special Education teacher at Franklin High School in Franklin, NJ. Her passion--making a difference in the lives of her students, was evident to all who knew her.
Outside of her career, Barbara found joy in her family and Broadway shows. She was an avid reader. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, trips to the beach, Mah Jong, and exercising. These hobbies brought her great pleasure and enriched her life.
Barbara will be deeply missed by her surviving family members: Daughters, Lori (Marc) Oppen and Amy (Michael) Cohen, and her son, David (Jennifer) Shotlander. Cherished grandchildren; Gabriel Oppen, Shayna Oppen, Sara Shotlander, Tracy Shotlander, Kayden Cohen, Nathan Cohen, Brendan Cohen, her beloved sister, Gayle (Nasser) Djavadi, and sister-in-law, Joyce (Mark) Glassman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Shotlander.
