Barbara's obituary
Our beloved Barbara Selman passed away from a rare ovarian cancer in the early morning of Friday, May 24th, 2024.
If you were lucky enough to enter Barb’s radius, you knew about her giving and sweet spirit.
Barb was born and raised in New Mexico, then moved to Hollywood in her late twenties. She worked as a set painter for movie productions. She moonlighted as a cocktail waitress at the infamous music venue The Roxy Theatre on Sunset Blvd. She loved music and movies and could recall details about bands, concerts, and shows that would astound you.
10 years later she moved from Hollywood to Indianapolis to be by her family and lead a more quiet life. She got a job on an Indy car team and was the first female pit crew worker for Indy cars. Like all the Selmans, she had a long list of hilarious and exciting stories from the track.
She traded in racing life for a job at Café Patachou, and eventually became one of the head managers for Martha Hoover.
She was a huge lover of vintage clothes and shoes and records, with an eye for the extraordinary. She also was an incredible oil painter for those of us lucky to have one of her pieces.
She will be sadly missed, heartbreakingly so. As a family, we’ve had a lot of red cardinal encounters that sent tingles up our spines and put a smile on our faces. Look up red cardinal encounters to see what we found.
